Can you tell your similies from your stanzas, your metaphors from your metonyms? The answer is the example of the technique demonstrated.

The poem I have used is Carol Ann Duffy's "In Mrs Tilscher's Class".

  1. 1

"with your finger, tracing the route"

  2. 2

"Brady and Hindley | faded, like the faint, uneasy smudge of a mistake"

  3. 3

the sky split open into a thunderstorm

  4. 4

The laugh of a bell swung by a running child

  5. 5

    Sugar paper. Coloured shapes.
