- Crazy, right? But in most states pharmacies are allowed to withhold your birth control if it’s against the personal views of the distributing pharmacist. Only six states guarantee women access to birth control prescriptions at their pharmacy: CA, IL, ME, NV, NJ, WA.

Do all insurance plans cover the cost of birth control?
- Actually, no. But we’re getting closer. In 2007, Oregon became the 27th state to require health-insurance plans that provide prescription drug benefits to cover birth control.
- Sad but true. In about half the states (23), insurance companies are not required to cover birth control the way they cover other prescription drugs.
