Thanksgiving was yesterday. Most of us know that - either by the long lines at stores today, or our full stomachs yesterday. However, how many of you know very much about the HISTORY of Thanksgiving???

Let's find out!

  1. 1

The first Thanksgiving celebration lasted three days.

  2. 2

Thanksgiving was declared an official annual celebration in New York City in 1792.

  3. 3

On December 11, 1620 the first Pilgrims (or Puritans, as they were initially known) landed at Plymouth Rock.

  4. 4

Since buckles didn't come into fashion until later in the 17th century, pilgrims did not wear buckles on their hats, clothes or shoes.

  5. 5

The pilgrims didn't use forks. They ate with spoons, knives, and their fingers.

  6. 6

The first Thanksgiving took place in 1624, when the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast.

  7. 7

Thomas Jefferson wanted the turkey to be our national bird instead of the bald eagle.

  8. 8

The turkey acquired its name by mistake; the English thought it was another bird that came from Africa through Turkey. The birds were not the same but the name stuck with the bird anyway.
