It is explained int he volutri scene of the last book of how they are not actually werewolves, that they are shape shifters.
Werewolves are the natural enemy of vampires,
Shape shifters are the defenders of the Quilete tribe.
If you knew anything about mythical stories, werewolves only change at a full moon,
shapeshifters can change at any given time that they choose.
I second monemo. This is correct... and NO WHERE in the books say he's a werewolf, just that his tribe's legends that they are descendents of wolves.

ya i missed 3 and i know i got two wrong but jacob is a werewolf not a shapeshifter
in the 4th book it saws hes a shape shifter
read the 2nd to last chapter. that might clear things up.
also Jacob might have made bella feel a little better but edward brought her back to normal
um jacob is a shape shifter that is what it clearly says in the book so read up ladies
