I want to be remembered for:
Doing everything in my power to extend rights to underrepresented and disenfranchised peoples.
I don't really care what people say about me, as long as the American people wise up and see things how they really are.
Improving human kind. Science is worth nothing if used to destroy humanity.
My actions and the choices I made, more than my words alone.
As an idealist who resisted tyranny wherever it was found.
My humble observations, in hopes that they'll speak to people and console them in hard times.

My favorite entry in the "Dictionary of Republicanisms" is:
faith (noun); The stubborn belief that God approves of Republican moral values despite the preponderance of textual evidence to the contrary.
9/11 (noun); Tragedy used to justify any administrative policy, especially if unrelated (see deficit, Iraq War).
ownership society (noun); A civilization where one percent of the population controls ninety percent of the wealth.
compassionate conservatism (noun); Poignant concern for the very wealthy.
class warfare (noun); Any attempt to raise the minimum wage.
woman (noun); Person who can be trusted to bear a child but can't be trusted to decide whether or not she wishes to have the child.

If I had to sum up my philosophy in life, this comes the closest:
Non-violent civil disobedience
I like to think of myself as rational. My arguments are based on scientific data.
I prefer to work on the inside most of the time while also respecting independent movements.
Rail against the system - I'm all for rabblerousing and less conventional tactics in the service of the greater good.
The pen can be mightier than the sword. I prefer more private, personal forms of resistance.
I don't take orders from anyone; I march to my own tune.

If I had to narrow it down to two issues I feel most passionate about, they would be:
Civil rights and civic activism
Privacy rights and drug legalization
Peace and nuclear non-proliferation
International law and human rights
Fighting corporate power and a more just economy
Women's rights

If you found me leafing through a copy of The Nation or browsing articles on The Nation's website, I'd most likely be reading an article by:
Gary Younge, Patricia Williams
Jeremy Scahill, Alexander Cockburn
William Greider, Robert Dreyfuss
Katrina vanden Heuvel, Laura Flanders
Naomi Klein, John Nichols
Katha Pollitt, Arthur Danto

Of the options below, my thoughts on the current state of our nation are most accurately described by this statement:
November 4th was a remarkable day...but even with our first person of color as Commander in Chief there's so much more to be done to achieve full equality for all.
I'm skeptical - there's a new party in power, but the same entrenched powers at play. I don't buy the hype.
I fear a reinvigorated arms race and I'm pleased that President Obama has indicated he'll initiate diplomatic talks with Iran.
I'm relieved to see the Global Gag Rule has been lifted, and that women around the world will be empowered to make their own decisions about their health.
I say it's time for a real revolution -- the ends justify the means.
I'm encouraged that the President has signed a bill into law that mandates that women are paid what their male counterparts are paid. But the playing field still isn't completely level.

The book you'd be most likely to find in my library is:
Gandhi's "An Autobiography"
Che Guevara's "Guerrilla Warfare"
Jimmy Carter's "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid"
Samantha Powers' "A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide"
Fyodor Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment"
The Norton Anthology of Poetry
