The Bell Witch is the most widely-documented ghost story in TN. The family of John & Lucy Bell was haunted by a poltergeist from 1817-1821. Cate Batts (often spelled Kate), was given the blame. She was innocent and her children suffered. Instead, three poltergeists followed John Bell from Rocky Mt., NC to Adams, TN, seeking their revenge.
