for my little sister
sorry this is kind of major venting...but i don't want to talk about it with my family and friends (it's so hard to talk about with them, but I need to, you know?) and sorry i keep talking about my sisters major health problems, but this year has been just so hard. thanks :]

    My sister went to the hospital again today. That would be the reason I'm up at 2 am making a Quibblo quiz. lol

    She has cystic fibrosis, a genetic lung/digestive disease.It makes her get lots of lung infections and its hard for her to gain weight. Just last year she was pretty healthy. this year she is soo not.

    Most ppl w/cf are pretty healthy when theyre young. But my sister got a lung infection from a bacteria called cepacia. in some cases, like my sister, it causes a steep, sudden decline in lung function

    Normal lung funtion (fev1, if u know what i'm talking about lol) = 100%. My sister was always at about 95%, but this past year 1/2 or so she has gone to 40%. that is VERY bad.

    Before cepacia, she was on IV antibiotics about once a year, as routine CF care. Now she has been on them 90 days total this year. She is getting resistant to some, so they don't work as well anymore.

    I can't even tell you how horrible it is to watch your sister struggling so much. She coughs SOO much. She can hardly laugh, some days she can hardly walk. She throws up from the IVs and gets fevers

    Today she was coughing up a lot of blood. it was terrifying! if it continues she will need a surgery (embolization) to stop the bleeding.

    My sister has to use 1-2 liters of oxygen at night. she has never needed it during the day, but today she was on 4 liters and her 02 sats were still only 95% (they should be 100% esp. on so much 02!!)

    She is so brave but you can tell she is miserable. She walks around everyday with fevers, coughing, throwing up, struggling to breathe. EVERYDAY. can you imagine??

    cepacia is almost impossible to get rid of (i have been doing a lot of reading lately). If she doesn't stop declining she will need a lung transplant soon, but it is hard to have one with cepacia.

    with her resistant to so many strong antibiotics, and her lung function still declining, we are running out of options other than a transplant.

    I am so so scared...I listened to the song Yesterday by Leona Lewis and just prayed I won't have to sing it about me and her someday.

    Please also pray that she gains some weight. She can't eat a lot when she doesn't feel good, and even though she has a feeding tube, she is still so small.

    Please pray that NOTHING else can go wrong. I love my sister so much and I just hate this stupid disease more than words can ever say. Thanks for reading my rant.
