Love, Chances, And Visions
A story I'm writing based on FlashForward. :) I love it!
Chapter 1
The Beginning
Kenneth Riley’s experiment was almost complete. This would be his final proof that he truly could see the future. For the past thirty-one years he had seen one man’s future; Joseph Taril’s future. He reviewed the notes he made of his visions of Joseph. Joseph was born on November fifth, had black hair and brown eyes. Joseph was an only child and graduated from Washington Central High School. He had also gone to college for five years at George Washington’s School of Law. Apparently, he was a fan of George Washington, Kenneth thought.
Joseph became an attorney and started his own law office in a town called Tunsten in Texas. Just last year Joseph married Meghan Kule, his high school buddy’s sweetheart. “And today, he is going to be in this very room, dead. Thirty-one years ago I knew he was going to die on this very day,” Kenneth said to himself.
Kenneth checked the machine he had created that was going to kill Joseph. Joseph has to die for his own good, Kenneth thought.
Through every vision Kenneth had, the person that he saw also caught a glimpse of Kenneth. He had recorded several videos over the past years documenting his visions as well as writing about them. He made sure that the camera was working properly. Kenneth walked out of the basement and locked it up. It’s time for you to meet the man who has known every move you made in the past thirty-one years, Joey-boy.
*
Kenneth found Joseph’s house with ease. It was a two-story, white; Greek looking house with two vehicles parked out front, a gray sports car and a white mustang. Two cars meant two people, and two people meant double the chance of being caught. He snuck out of his car to the side of the house. Joseph was on his laptop with a bottle of water on a small table at his side. I have just the thing for you, Joe. For as long as I need, this drug will keep you from disturbing my plans.
It could not have been a more perfect opportunity for Kenneth. The victim was occupied, the weapon was right in reach, and the window was all ready open. Only a few seconds after he had poured the drugs into Joe’s drink, Joe sipped the water. And only in a few more minutes the laptop fell out of his lap as Joe sat unconscious. Kenneth crawled through the window and dragged Joe to his car. Kenneth laid Joe in the backseat of his car and took off.
*
Joe woke in a large room, sitting in a chair and nothing around him except black darkness. He tried to move, but could not. His ankles were tied to the legs of the chair, his thighs were strapped to the seat and his hands were tied to his neck, which was also secured. He tried to struggle out of the chair on more, but the result was the same.
“Help!” Joe yelled as loud as he could.
As if it were a response to his cry, a door opened, revealing some light, then it was shut again. A light clicked on so bright and so sudden Joe shut his eyes. Footsteps approached him. He heard someone give a cruel laugh as he was slapped across the face.
“What in God’s name am I here for?” Joe managed to ask.
“I’ve known you your whole life, Joe,” a voice responded.
Joe could finally see the person. The man had light hair and eyes that looked like frozen water. The man pressed his fair-skinned hand against the back of Joe’s neck. “Your life is but a tiny piece of the puzzle that is about to be completed. The puzzle that I have been trying to create for the past 31 years.” The man released his hand. “You’re supposed to die today, Joe.”
The man pulled out a gun and pointed it at Joe. This is it, Joe thought. All that I’ve worked for is lost. He bent his head forward and remembered the important things in his life; his wife, his job, and….
“Stop!” yelled an unfamiliar voice.
A shot was fired and Joe looked up. Some Texan stated troopers were now in front of him, instead of the man.
“Are you all right?” one of the troopers asked.
Joe nodded as best as he could.
The troopers quickly cut the ropes around Joe and assisted him to their van. “Let’s get you home.”
