Chapter 1

You're pretty.

The rest of the week went by in a blur. Things went back to normal. There wasn't any more fighting, crying, and confusion. I told my parents that I realized that I was making a huge mistake and that I didn't want to move. Life was finally falling together perfectly, and that was a big relief. My thoughts were interrupted when I felt the cold air coming through my window. I got off my bed and walked over to the big, white window. I could see some of the leaves starting to fall off of the trees. Knowing that snow would cover everything soon was kind of depressing. I started to close the doors of my window, but opened them back up. I felt like I was being . . . watched. I was still paranoid, so I couldn't let it go. I ran to my bed and picked up my phone to dial Jacob's number. It sounded like the rings kept getting louder as I waited for him to answer. Nothing. I put the phone down silently and sighed; frusterated. I felt like I shouldn't be scared. There were no crazy vampires left to come get me. There weren't any more killings. La Push has been quiet. But I couldn't help but think that something bad was going to happen. I silently walked past my parents room and down the stairs. I walked into the kitchen slowly. It felt like I had to constantly watch my back. I hated that feeling. I made my way over to the back door and stared through the glass at the dark trees. I shuddered at the thought of my dream. Why was I so scared? It didn't make sense. I stood there for a minute; thinking. I decided to slide the glass door open. I stepped outside, leaving the door open behind me. Just in case. I shivered as the mid-November air hit my exposed skin. I walked towards the dark, shaking trees. This was stupid. I was stupid. I shouldn't be doing this. That's all I could keep repeating in my head. But for some reason, I was drawn to those trees. I couldn't stop walking. I couldn't turn around. I finally reached the trees. I looked past them and it was nothing but black. I was stupid, but not stupid enough to go in there. Another shiver ran down my spine. I heard something snap close by. As if something was walking near me the whole time. My heart was pounding. I was panicking. But I was frozen in my spot. Just like my dream. I closed my eyes. Waiting for something to happen, but nothing. I opened my eyes. I gasped when I saw the giant wolf step out from the woods. Run. That's the only thing I could get through my head. Just run. I started to back away slowly. My steps getting bigger every time I moved back. I continued to stare at the wolf; waiting for him to do something, but he just stood there. He didn't move. Not at all. I could see his eyes. They looked guilty. Almost sorry. I suddenly stopped moving when I thought of something. Werewolf. Jacob. I looked back at the wolf; amazed. "Jacob?" He lowered his head and whimpered. I approached him. "I've never seen you as a werewolf before, Jake." He let out another small whimper. I looked up at him disapprovingly. Did he really think that this would change the way I felt about him? I ran my hand through his russet colored fur. "You're pretty." He made a coughing sound, which I'm pretty sure was him laughing. He groaned and nudged me towards the house gently. It was like he heard something I didn't. I decided to listen to him and walked back to the house. I walked through the already open door, and closed it silently. I stared through the glass. Jake was already gone. I sighed with relief as I realized that I got worked up over nothing.

Jacob's Pov

I quietly opened her window and slid through the frame. "__" I called her name, waiting for her to answer. "Jake? What are you doing here?" I smiled slightly. "Just wanted to see you." I pulled back the blanket on her bed and sat next to her. "My dad is going to kill both of us if he finds out that you're here. You're going to die first though." I chuckled lightly. "He won't find out. I promise." It was silent for a minute. I was waiting for her to say something. Anything. She inhaled deeply, "Jacob?" "Yeah?" She took a long pause before she smacked my arm. "Ow! What was that for?" I asked, trying to hold back my laughter. "You scared the hell out of me earlier. I thought I was going to die. With the whole vam-" I grabbed her face between my hands and kissed her. "Sorry." I said with a smile on my face. "You're forgiven." I leaned back on her pillows as she rested her head on my chest. "So you think I'm pretty?" I asked. "Hmm, you're not that bad." "Ouch. That one hurt." She laughed lightly. "Of course you're pretty. Even prettier than me." I looked down at her and kissed her head. "That's impossible. You're beautiful." I could imagine the smile on her face. "I love you, Jake." "I love you, too."

Normal Pov.

I woke up to the sun coming through my window. That was a surprise considering that the past two weeks have been rainy and cold. I looked around, expecting to find Jake, but he was already gone. I got ready for school and walked downstairs to see Jacob sitting at the table. I looked at him confused. "I thought you left." He shrugged. "I wanted to drive you to school." I smiled. "Okay, are you ready to go?" "Yep," He said, popping the P.

The drive to school was silent. We pulled into the parking lot and I got out of the car. I walked into the school and headed to my locker. I opened it and got out my books. I saw Kayla coming my way. "Hey." I looked at her confused. "Err. Hi, Kayla," I said kind of akward. We haven't talked to each other since I told her that I wanted to move. I couldn't blame her though. She was right. "Look. I just wanted to say that I'm sor-" I cut her off short. "No. Don't be sorry. You were right for telling me that. I needed to hear it." She smiled. "So does this mean that we can go back to being best friends?" I nodded slightly. "Yeah." She hugged me and screamed. I couldn't help but laugh. "Good. Because I missed you." I heard the first bell ring. "I missed you, too. Anyways, I'll see you in Biology." She nodded. I walked into the room and took my seat next to Jake. He looked at me and smiled. But suddenly everything got really bright. I started to get light headed. Jacob looked at me, concern crossing his face. "Are you okay?" I shook my head. "I need to go." I quickly got up from my seat and approached the teacher. I asked for a pass and ran to bathroom. I could feel the acid rising in my throat. I placed my hand over my mouth, trying to keep it down until I got to the bathroom. When I got there, I leaned over the toilet and threw up. I leaned against the wall and slid down to the tile floor. This didn't feel like a normal sickness. I stood up slowly; trying not to make the pain in my side any worse. I walked over the sink and looked at myself in the mirror. My whole face was flushed and I could feel my stomach churn again. I rinsed my mouth twice; trying to get the vomit taste out. After I could barely taste it anymore, I walked out of the bathroom. I bumped into Jake. Making my stomach twist again. "What's wrong?" He asked; the stress clear on his face. "I just need to go home." "Wait. Please tell me what's wrong." I inhaled sharply. "There's something wrong with me, Jake. I don't feel right." "Maybe you have the flu." I shook my head lightly. I could feel the the dizziness coming again, but this time it was stronger. Everything I saw became blurry. I closed my eyes letting the blackness come over me. I could hear Jacob calling my name over and over again. I wanted to answer him. I wanted to tell him that I was fine. But I knew that would be a lie.
