Chapter 1

Chapter 1: You...My Personal Nightmare

One. Two. Three. I counted the little stains that decorated my bedroom's ceiling as lay in my bed in the middle of the night. I couldn't sleep. Another nightmare might intrude my dreams. My 16-year-old brain told me not to be ridiculous, but every time I closed my eyes horrible images surrounded my sight. Blood, death, flesh, bones, and so on and so forth. Sometimes though, my imagination was kind to me. It sometimes showed flashes. Deep and dark, very dark, blue eyes. It also showed wings, white wings that looked like velvet. I, somehow, yearned to touch them, though the thing that caught more my attention was a star. Yes, a star in the back of this person's neck (a beautiful neck, I might add).
I tried to forget everything about those dreams. Even the beautiful dark blue eyes that made me feel shivers in the back of my neck. I concentrated on the spots in my ceiling but every time I tried to, those eyes intruded my mind again and again.
Of course now I know that my mind was trying to tell me something. Something bigger than a dream, bigger than you and me. Maybe even bigger than life as we know it. Though, I didn’t know just yet about how my life was going to change just the very next day.

"Elektra! Hurry up! You are going to be late to school!" My mother yelled as I got ready to leave to my very insipid and boring school.
"Going Mother!" I yelled back.
"What took you so long?" My mom asked as I descended the stairs.
"Nothing, I just..." I trailed off.
"Another nightmare honey?" She asked, her bright green eyes full of concern.
"Yes, well, no," I didn’t want to worry my mother even if that meant dying because of lack of sleep.
"This is very disturbing, Ellie," my mom said.
"Don't worry, mom. Don't worry," I muttered as I went out the front door.

Eastlake High was one of the biggest and oldest schools in this particular county. I entered the front door as I scanned around for a familiar face.
I immediately saw Emma's, best friends, face. And she saw mine.
"Elle!" she said as she reached me.
"Um, hi," I said.
"What's wrong? You're quieter than usual," she commented.
"Nothing, I'm just very tired," I answered.
"You might fool everyone around you, maybe even yourself, but I know something's wrong with you, but its okay, don’t tell me, you'll come around," and with that the bell rang indicating first hour. Ugh! Geometry.

I was late to class. I went to my usual seat in the very back of the room.
"Glad you cloud join us, Ms. Hudson," Mr. Kriviksh said.
"Okay, so today we will be—" he was interrupted by the knocking of the door.
He went to the door and started to talk to the person behind it.
"...new to the school..."
"...Alexander Sparks..."
Those were the only fragments of the conversation I could hear. Then, a fair haired boy came into the room. His only presence made me shiver. I looked him up and down, and I gasped.
He looked at me as if he had heard my gasp, which was impossible because he was across the room. Wait a second, I thought to myself, those eyes. I know those eyes. Suddenly my heart started beating faster. Why? Because I knew him, my mind recognized him from somewhere, Alexandros, that was his real name, and also because those dark blue eyes were the ones that intruded my dreams every single night.
My eyes looked at him in disbelief. It was impossible! Just explicitly weird.
Even though, his lips formed a mocking smile, his eyes said that he was in complete shock, too. Which in a way, comforted me, since it told me I hadn’t gone mad.
He smiled at me, but his smile was only half-heartened, because his dark blue eyes said that something scared him to death.

Drama was one of my favorite classes in my whole schedule, since I just liked poems and stories that weren’t so literal, and also because Emma was there to keep me company.
"…and I’m all like ‘What are you talking about?’ and she was all like ‘Well, I’m just saying,' can you believe it?" Emma was just explaining a weird conversation she’d had with her mom.
"Well, yeah, she is your mother—" I was interrupted by a very familiar head coming into the room.
"Hey girls!" said Bryan, his brown hair covering most of his forehead as he walked toward us.
"Hey Bryan," I said looking directly into his big green eyes.
"Um," Emma cleared her throat. "Hey." Emma’s had a humongous crush on Bryan since the third grade, is it obvious?
"So, you guys seen the newbie?" Bryan asked. I knew exactly what "newbie" he was talking about.
"Who? Alexander Sparks?" I asked nonchalantly.
"Yeah, the guy with blonde hair and tanned skin, and looks like something might attack him any minute?" Emma asked.
"Yeah, him. Isn’t it weird that—"
The door opened and two figures appeared at the door. One, I knew, was Alexander, and the other one was this tall guy with dark brown hair and big and shiny gray eyes.
Demetrios, my mind recognized him, too. He turned to look at me, and cocked his head to the side. He chuckled and told something to Alexander. Alexander looked my way and the fear in his eyes returned.
"Okay," Mrs. Cast said. "Today we will be learning about improvisations—"
She was interrupted by a blonde girl rushing into the room.
"Um, hello, and you are?" Mrs. Cast asked the girl.
Ileanna! I thought before she could say, "Lillian, Lillian Sparks."
"Dimitri!" she sang, "Get over here."
"Nooo," "Dimitri" sang back.
"You are such a—"
"Okay Lillian, I think you should go to your seat," Mrs. Cast said.
"I don’t know where that is," Lillian said matter-of-factly.
"Right over there," she pointed at our table.
"There? Are you sure?" She looked at me and I could see sadness cross her face.
"I’m very sure," and Ileana, I mean Lillian walked to our table. She sat down in front of me.
"Hi Elle," she said.
"Wait, how do you know my name?" I asked.
"Don’t you know mine?" she asked.
"Ileanna? Is that it?" I asked.
"Oh God," she whispered, "Here we go again."
