Why? Why me?
It's as if the world doesn't even know me at all. What did I do to deserve this?
Screw all those people who said I was wrong! I know I was right. I saw him with my own two eyes.
I do agree that it sounds kind of insane.
A mysterious guy that falls down from the Heavens above and tells me that the hour is approaching. Scary! My brain says it was a dream, but my heart says it was real.
My world is about to end, and I'm the only one who knows about it.

Chapter 1

Mysterious Man

Ring! Ring!
Great. Who could be calling this early?
Ring! Ring!
"Hello?"
"Hey! Are you awake already? We have to present our project and you're late!"
"What're you talking about? It's barely 6 in the morning."
"No, silly. It's 9 and school started an hour ago! We have to present OUR project today for Mr. Jones' class! Do you even care about our grade?"
"Of course I care about my-I mean, our grade. What do you mean 9?"
"Is your alarm clock upside down, or are you?"
"That. That doesn't even make sense! My alarm clock is in its place."
"Then maybe it's you."
"You're crazy. I'll be there in a few."
Damn. She's right. How the heck does she always do that? Well, time to start this horrendous doomfilled day.

I walk to the kitchen, and what do I find? Pizza. On the floor. With cochroaches on it. What a dump!
I slump over to my room and wonder what could've been if my mom were here. Maybe it wouldn't be as messy and mind-numbing as it is now. Of course, there's no way to reverse the life and death chain. One lives, another dies. It's a never ending course. The human population will never end! Curse this world.

As I sneak into the bathroom, I stare into the mirror. I see my reflection, but nothing else. I see a girl with a crooked nose and tiny eyes. Her hair is flat with dead end signs everywhere. Her eyes are scared at the reflection. She looks away, too afraid at the thought of someone staring at her. But she mustn't be scared. She needs to overcome her fears.
Go on, I tell myself. Look again. My conscience is my guide, and I must do as it says.
Go. Do it. Look at yourself. Use positive thoughts now. Only positive, not negative.
I see the girl's eyes again, with sparkles on them this time. Her eyes are a beautiful golden-honey color. She has full red lips that would put any boy in a trance. Her hair is light auburn with more life to it than flatness.
You're beautiful Anabel. Don't say anything else. You must believe in yourself.
I believe in myself.

This morning was crazy. First, cochroach; then, positive thinking. What was I thinking? I hope it doesn't get any worse.

I just had to say it! My car won't start! I put gasoline on it yesterday, so that's not a problem. I check the engine. Everything seems to be okay. That's kind of weird. Where's a clock when you need one? Oh! I have a phone. 10:01. Shoot. Mary is going to be really pissed. I'm just glad that we're last. I have exactly 14 minutes before we go on.
Come on! You can do it little, old car. Do it for me. For Mary. For my grade. For me!
"Begging the car won't work, you know."
Who said that? I silently turn around, but see no one. I look to my left; then to my right. No one.
"You can try talking to it, nicely. They usually don't respond when there's begging involved."
Where is that voice coming from? Um, conscience? Is that you?
-silence-
I guess, it's not my conscience.
"Hello? I don't usually talk to the air itself," I say.
"Haha, you're funny for an angel, you know." An angel?
"Yeah, if you say so. Where are you?"
"In front of you."
Shoot! That scared the living crap out of me. I turn around, and what do I see? A man in a coat. I can't even see his face.
"Sorry, I'm not allowed to talk to strangers. Goodbye."
"Oh, I'm not a stranger. I've been waiting for you." Woah. Talk about scary.
"You know what? I'll just walk to school."
"Why do that, when you have a car?"
"Well, if you have been looking at me for the past 10 minutes, you might have realized that my car is NOT working."
"Yes, it does. Give it a try."
I turn it on. It works. That's impossible. It didn't work a couple minutes ago.
"Nothing's impossible." Did he just hear me in my head?!
"Just remember, young Achelin, the hour is approaching, and your time of need is near."
Achelin? What did he just say? I look back at my phone. 10:12. Wait. Where'd he go? He just disappeared!
Man, I'm going to ditch Mary. If she cares so much about her grade, she wouldn't have chosen me as her partner in the first place. Stupid girl.
I have more important things to do.
Like find out what Achelin means.
