Recap

by: The_theif
"pizza rolls ready!" I called. Red, Sahara, and Anestasia raced to the kitchen. They all ran in their animal form, Red as a tiger, and Sahara as a cheetah, except for Anestasia, because she's a snake shifter. Sahara got there first, but Red was close behind, and quickly caught up. Yellow rings of mist shrouded Sahara as she turned back into a human, but for Red there was no time. If she wanted pizza rolls, she'd have to act fast. So, no need to change, She just munched on the little packets of sauce and pepperoni in her Tiger form. Sahara began grabbing things off the plate with her delicate fingers. Anestasia came last, grabbing them one by one in a polite manner. Sahara snapped at Red "Stop being such an animal!" Red, looking asamed, changed aswell, her face covered with sauce, making her red hair hard to see. She wiped her face on a dishcloth and asked "So, tomorrow's the big night?" "yeah." I said flatly. Tomorrow I would gain the ability to shift into an animal of a nature spirit's choice.

He sat in his throne, thoughts storming in his head. In his hand were] two stones, Which he turned slowly around each other, in an attempt to focus his mind. He stopped, and the stones lay still, as he paused to hear the slightest footsteps of his servant. No other animal, nor man, nor shifter could hear her from afar. That's why she was selected for certain jobs. She entered the room, her pale skin, dark hair and bloody red eyes marked her evil features. she hissed
"Thee prophesy be nigh, sire." His head grew with unease and anger. Like the fools would understand.
"bring in Chance." he growled. The servant bowed quickly, fear and respect on her mind. He could see that much. She left, once again very light on her feet. He began rotating the stones again.Like the fools understood why he did, what he did. They all think he was wrong, that he was a traitor, the stones were crushed in his fist. The boy, with blond hair and red eyes, strode in.
"yes master?"

Just then, we heard scratching at the door. at it was Collen, my crush, In wolf form. All the girls looked at me, I looked back, blushed, then opened the door. He stepped in, yellow mist enveloped his body, and out came the dark haired boy, with green eyes. "Hey." I squeaked. I was emmbarressed about my throat cracking. I blushed even more. " hey rose. I hope you girls don't mind if I take her outside for a bit will you?" Red smiled and said "No. Not at all." "Yeah, sure said sahara. "Of course we don't mind" anestasia chided in. Then, grabbing my hand he guided me out to the deck. The crickets were silent, and the moon was full. "I brought you something." He said. reaching into his coat pocket, He pulled out a necklace of a dragon holding a pearl, the insides of it's wings were colored with sapphire. "Thank you!" I gushed. It really was kinda ugly, but it was from Collen, So I didn't care. He blushed. "Yeah, I heard the big day was tomorrow, So I set out to get you something."

" I have a task for you." he said, his voice hurting my ears, teeming with power. a purposeness was left on the end of the sentence. "But first, I have a gift." One of the red-eyed female servants came and brought out a dragon on the end of a chain, made out of gold, It's wings and skin were alit with ruby. In it's claws it held an orb, of some other red gem. "this was from your father before he died." He said the words with a sadness. "I bring it to you now that your old enough to understand it's importance." I was sure I could've understood how important it was before, But he knew more than my years. I spoke with power as best as I could "And this task?" I asked. He said "The prophecy is nigh. You know what to do." I grinned wolfishly. I had been training for this my entire life. I felt my muscles bulge under the yellow mist and broke through my clothes and I turned into a dragon. Fire in my throat and arrow on my tail, I would fly to them on dragon wing and rip them to pieces.

"were did you get it?" I asked, as my hand traced around it's shape. "At a bookstore peculiar place to get it, huh?" He beamed at me, thinking it was the most gorgeous thing in the world to me. "yes, peculiar place..." I thought aloud. There was a long pause of silence while I examined the piece then out of nowhere he smooched me straight on the lips. I was taken aback. I probably looked like a deer caught in headlights to him. Then, after what seemed like forever, He kissed me again. And again. and again. Then I kissed him back, pushing my lips harder on his. Harder. Harder. I was beginning to feel dizzy when he pulled away. Our breath mingled in the chilly night air, When he kissed me again, but on the cheek, And said "Well, I better get going. You know, it's way past curfew""Yeah." I agreed. I grasped my necklace. " Well, later." he said, then he bounded off in wolf form. My head was spinning when I managed to open the sliding glass door into the cabin. I climbed my bunk into my bed, smiling.

I soared across the sky, the sun was rising to meet me, trying to outdo my speed and beat me to the other side of the sky. But I would make it to the The hidden stronghold of Yggdrasil before dawn, where the rest of the shifters cower from human civilization. He gazed out onto the giant tree that was it's center. That, was where he would find them. He was almost there. He could sense his prey, So close and yet so far. I grinned. I noticed the civilization under myself. didn't want to frighten anyone. I dove above the clouds to avoid sight. Way above the clouds. Feeling sun on my back, I turned myself. The Sun was here. No rush, I told myself. But who can tell the purpose of them. Who could predict their movements? Who could tell with what would happen when he got there? He hated the fact that he had to wait to find out. But he'd have to be content for now. he thought outloud "I'm coming, whoever you are, whatever your purpose, I'm coming."

Today was the day. Now was the time. They called my name, and I walked up nervously to the altar. An elderly lady stood there with a thin brush and a bowl full of something black. She painted something on my head, a symbol of some sort, and told me to close my eyes. I did. I was thrown into a trance-like state. All I could see was a tunnel. a tunnel of colors and lights. And before I knew it, it was over. I opened my eyes, And everything was brighter, too bright. too loud. It was all giving me a headache. what was going on? I was so confused. everything was rushing around me. I swayed, and felt my self fall and sit on the floor. I blinked, and things became clearer, I could feel the difference in my body. My chest felt lighter, but legs felt stronger and more heavy. my arms felt way stronger. My back felt a lot more comfortable. I felt I should place my arms in front of me. Oh, that feels so much better. I scratched blue scaly snout . wait... I'm a dragon?

was almost there, time to get ready. I tensed my muscles, Testing them for use. I would find the dragon shifter. he would be mine. the thought made me sad. It seemed too easy to be what I trained for my whole life. No chase like my other targets. and of course I'd win the fight. And after I did this, what purpose in life would I serve? What would I be good for? Life would seem empty. But he couldn't think of that now. I was on a job. No time for thinking what would happen afterward. I had to keep moving. think about... something else. anything else. anything besides that.

"Congrats, there has not been a dragon shifter for many years." the old woman said smiling. I smiled back. I left the room, and my friends and crush collen came rushing to me. Collen asked "So how'd it go?" "well, ummm... I'm a dragonshifter." I said shyly, not sure what Collen would think. his face turned serious, then went back to a goofy smile. "That's Great." Then he looked to the sky, and his smile faded. shadows covered Yggdrasil, and I looked up. A huge red dragon was blocking the sun. It slowly made its' decent, and when it landed the trees shook. I turned into a blue dragon myself, and marched up to it. I heard it echo in my head "I wasn't expecting you to be girl." I answered his thought with "I wasn't expecting you at all." His face looked surprised, and said "You can hear my thoughts! " "yeah, apparently, your not shocked you could hear mine?" "No, I read most of my targets minds. But yours is different." I looked at him questionably. "Target?"

xpect the unexpected

As I flew over, I was sure to make an enterance. I read her thoughts from afar. Love. hmmmm. I felt bad for whoever was her boyfriend. Wait, Her! I never expected the blue one to be a girl. This was absurd. I will feel bad later for killing the girl, and most likely whoever she shared her relationship with later. Not for my reasons of course. I flew over the sun and slowly descended. Her thoughts were not of fear. They were of irritation. And of the boy named Collen. She would make-out with him once this was over. She wasn't expecting me at all. Could she hear my thoughts? her thoughts answered yes. And to stop snooping round' her brain. I smiled she was over-confident. That always makes things more interesting. However, I could feel her probing my brain as well for information. Her thoughts wondered if she was my target. Know she knows she's my target. She's unsure. And irritated. This may be an interesting hunt after all.

He tackled me first. While he was on top of me, I gave him a quick kick to the chest. He flew off of me, And then I took to the air, hoping to lure him up. I had a feeling i stood no Chance to just strength and running. Flying may be a strong point. He did come up, pumping his wings and breathing hard. This guy was pissing me off. what did I do to him? I dive bombed him while he was flying up, Our faces close, His eyes were closed. His eyes opened and then he smiled wolfishly. He took his mighty front talons and slapped me. Everything went blurry and bright and loud again. I regained consiousness and saw him on top of me an was going to drive me into the ground. I screamed, and out came a jet of blue fire. I scorched the side of his face, and he grabbed his face and screiched. Just before I hit the ground I flew out from under him. He hit the ground on his side. then he got up and shook the dirt from his scales. Then Collen scared the hell outta me and bit his tail. He whipped Collen offwith the same ease I would use to swat a fly.

She was already thinking. I had to act fast. Quickly, I tackled her to the ground. But just before I was about to deliver a blow, She retalliated, and kicked me off. She tried to lure me to the air, just like they said she would. I smiled, and pumped my wings as best to my ability, hoping she didn't get too far away. She dive bombed me just like they said she would. I took the pain, and let her take hold. She probably wasn't expecting me to hit her.THe sound ofmy claws resoundig upon dragon scales was a horrible screech, like a nails on a chalkboard.I flipped her making sure she was the one who was going to be driven into the ground. I miscalculated. Too early. She woke up and singed my face. I couldn't resist, and so I grabbed the burn and screamed. I should have just tooken it silently. Now I suffered more penalty. She flew out from under my claws. And I plummeted into the ground. Pain was an illousion. I needed to get past it. So I shook the dirt from my body and stood up. Then a wolf came and bit me. How pathetic. I flicked it off my tail easily, and it gave a thump as it's head connected to the tree.

As he flicked Collen off, he hit the side of a tree. He lay there in a crumpled heap. The red one laughed evilly. OMG Collen! I was getting more and more pissed. I turned toward him, eager to wipe that grin off his face. I snapped my jaws multiple time in his direction, But he dodged every one. He began to laugh again and asked, "This your first fight?" I growled and struck his eye with my claw. His smile faded, And he flew off.I was sure we weren't done. I leaped into the air, and steadily kept pace with him. He hovered near the side of a cliff face. I dashed toward him, rage fueling my power. But he caught me on the throat, and began strangling me. He then turned me, shoving me into the side of the cliff. He still had me by the throat. Everything was going blurry again. Then I gave him a good kick to the chest. I felt his ribs crack and air whoosh out of his lungs. Then I turned and with my front talons, pushed him into the cliff. I felt each rib snap. Then I released him. He fell, as he did, slowly shrinking beneath me, and eventually hearing a thump, and a cloud of dust settling a t the bottom, I found myself satisfied.

I watched him hit the tree with amusement. But even more entertaining was the look of pain on her face. I laughed. She was quick, but not quick enough. She was snapping repeatedly in my face, but I dodged each one skillfully. "This your first fight?" I asked. Then she caught me with a swift uppercut to my eye. The joke was over. I would lure her to the place of her death: the side of a cliff. Taking to the air, I was sure she would follow me with a vengance, for what I did to her partner. And, what do you know, I was right! She was going faster than I thought possible, but I was still able to catch her throat. Her eyes rolled up into her skull as I began pushing her into the cliff. She was a sharp one though, And gave me a heavy kick to my ribs. Air whooshed out of my chest, And I felt my ribs give way. Then she slammed me against the cliff, And began crushing my ribs one by one. Eventually she released me, And I began plummeting toward the ground. falling, falling....

Collen was rushed to our local shifter-friendly E.R. His wolf body was still limp, his eyes closed. There was a scar on his eye, his nose was bleeding, and the doctors suspected he had a broken neck. Even if he did live, would he remember me? What if he has Amnesia? What will I do then? I worried constantly without rest.
I couldn't sleep that night, nor would I sleep that night. What if he were to pass away? and because of me? Eventually It drove me insane, So I got up to visit him. I walked into the E.R, not sure what to do. I so badly wanted to talk to him, but he needed rest if he was going to get well. i sat on the couch nearby, and managed to fall asleep. I woke up with the sun in my eyes and to the sound of a fork scraping a plate. My eyes opened, and there was Collen, in human form, with a neck brace, sitting up in bed eating scrambled eggs. "hey, babe." he said with the same goofy smile. babe... that was new... At least he was alright. I smiled back.

When my eyes opened, the first thing I noticed was the pain in my chest. I let out a shaky breath as I recollected what happened. The blue she-dragon defeated me. how? no matter. I would be moving as soon as my ribs were back in place. I was not some weak human. I would survive. I drew in another shaky breath, and tried to focus what was left of my energy to heal myself. Focus, focus... I moaned in pain as my bones placed themselves back in their proper places, their sounds echoing through the canyon. The ability required expierience. Something she would never have more of than myself. The cracked as they popped into place... I felt them arranging themselves within me. When they scraped against each other, I couldn't help but scream. I breathed heavily. When this was over, oh how the dragon would be mine. But I would bring her back alive next time. Master will seek her power for himself. Then we may become stronger. I smiled, knowing this may become more interesting yet.

They told me I should leave. My friends and the other adults. They said it was to protect me, protect them, and protect Collen. It made sense. Every part about it made sense. But that doesn't mean you want to go. You want to stay with your friends, who've been there for you most of your life. It was hard to go. that afternoon was filled with hugs and tears. I usually don't let people hug me. But this was worth it. I couldn't get any alone time with Collen since he was in the E.R, But I was still able to say goodbye. That was the real reason I left. Collen can't defend himself in his current state. So this was necessary. I just hoped that he'd wait for me when I got back. But when would that be? So tonight I'm leaving everything. Not sure when I'm supposed to come back. So Will I just be running my entire life? I don't get it. What am I supposed to do? What do they expect of me? Either way, that night I tried to cut my emotional ties. But that would be impossible. I'll pretend I did.

I rose up out of of the cloud, prepared for capture. I flew to yggdrasil once again. But it didn't take me long to assess what had happened. She was long gone. I growled. Damn, I had missed her. Oh well, I smirked. This should make life more interesting. But, before I leave, I thought, why not kill her partner? It would save me some time, he come back for revenge later anyway. So I scouted in the air and while I was on the ground stealthily crawl on my dragonbelly to peek in buildings. But the wolf was no where to be found. Not even in the Emergency room. Now where had he gone? I must've killed him I flicked him off my tail? No, I'm sure I didn't hit him that hard. Did I? Now Where could you be little wolf, where could you be?

Under the twilight moon's stare, I felt like I could touch the stars with my wingtips if I just went a little higher. Of course that was impossible. But it still felt like i could. The cold was settling in my wings, and my face began to sting because of the chilly night air. I lowered myself just below the clouds. I looked down for a safe place to land. But all I could see was city, city, and more city. Skyscrapers all lit up and parking buildings. I'd never been in human lands before, but I knew I wasn't welcome. We've been in a war with humans for many years. Seeing as I could find no other place to land, i flew down into what looked like a warehouse, full of crates and boxes. I crawled in a corner and surrounded it with boxes. I'd hope that would give me some cover for now. I laid on the cold, hard concrete floor and covered myself with my leathery wings. I began to cry. Why couldn't I have been normal? why me? I just want to go home. I cried myself to sleep that night.

The shadow in the luminescent moon was as plain as day. She was there alright. And although her blue figure was hard to make out in the twilight, It was surely her. I saw her pop out from under the clouds. bingo. That was her. Moving quickly, I could see the she flew into an old grey concrete building. I wasn't sure what to do with her at this point. If I attacked now we could cause alarm to the humans. I was on their side, no need for them to worry. But I was worried the humans might take her away and not give her to my master. I slowly descended onto an old sky scraper. Maybe if I sleep on it...

I woke up to the lights in the warehouse. After my eyes slowly blinked twice, I unflured my wings. I knew at once people were in here. But I was too depressed to be scared. I peeked my head out, annd the men immediatley barked , yelled, and screamed, terrified of me. Before I could make myself known anymore, I agiley climbed the crates and jumped through the top window. I flew up to the top of a sky scraper, and there I sat, watching the humans and their hubub. Why did they hate us? there were posters of us everywhere, showing a teen boy with tattered rags for clothes and a crocodile, obviously his form. Why were we hated among their kind? What did we do to them. even as I sit atop the world, life feels empty for one of the most magnificent creatures, a dragon, because there is no one to love her, and no one for her to love. What is life without love? an empty husk? a life worth without living? Or a shadow of once was, or what couldv'e been? what is life without love?

I watched her. I didn't attack, I just watched her. She flew on to the skyscraper, And pondered things. Oh so many things. I read her mind, and she thought about love. what was life without love? Is there life without love?Oh, the things she thought, the dreams she dreamed, and wishes she wished. Why do I feel different about her than my other targets? Why is there something else that shouldn't be there? Why did I actually feel bad for her? Why? She was no different. Every other one had family, friends, love. And I took it away? Why? for what? For my master? What have I done for myself? She was so beautiful there, in the sun or moon, in night or day. Even if I do feel feelings for her, I must get them out of my head. She is my enemy. I am to hunt her down and bring her back to the master. But even if I did let her live, could I bear to accept the fact that I had given her to him, So that he would take her soul away? Could I watch her suffer? Could I watch her die?

I looked off into the distance. Whoever was after me, the red dragon, would there be more? I had to keep moving.Staying in one place was risky. Leaping off the Skyscraper, I ascended above the clouds. So many clouds pass, Then I saw a tower, rising out of the sky. Higher than any before. I stopped. It was amazing. what could possibly build such an amazing tower? Not humans. Not shifters. I couldn't even see the top of it. It seemed like... No one built it. It felt like it was just... there. I went below the clouds. that was impossible. I landed on a mountain and looked out. Nope, still there. Still ever lasting. I decided I would stay in the tower for the night. Flying through the window, I could see it's halls were empty, It's walls were scorched. What had happened here? Wind whispered threw the hollow tower, seeming to suggest it's lonelyness. It's stone walls were green with moss and age, And it smelled terrible. At least no one would find me here. And the tower won't be so lonely.

I was steadily following her. She was right in front of me--how could I lose her! Either way, she dove under the clouds. I followed her, But when I got down there, she was no where to be found. Where did she go? Faded with the wind? I stood on top of a mountain, where her scent was. But she wasn't there. Where did she go, Damn it. I will wait on this mountain, And wherever she's hiding, She'll be captured. She can't hide forever.

A soft thrumming awoke me from my sleep. I got up and looked at my necklace. It glowed a beautiful aqua-marine, and Vibrated like a cell phone. I looked up from my necklace, and there it was, a transparent man, circled by an also clear, small dragon that glowed green. It was a curious thing. and around his neck was a necklace, identical to mine, only embroided in emerald. his eyes were emotionless, except for the wisdom you could see within them. "Who are you?" I asked. " I am the one who has seen what you have not, who was before you, and who will tell the tale of destiny." when he spoke, the air radiated around him, and it sounded like two voices speaking at once. One voice was harsh and low, the other was more gentle and intelligent. "why are you here?" I asked. "Because of the sins of the ancient one who yet lives without rest, who is responsible for the tower's destruction, and who's follower will be your enemy, your quest, and your love."

I had gone 13 days without sleep, drink, or food. My eyes burn with irritation, my body hungering for all three. I had been trained how to fast. But I fear this was too much for me. The mysterious thrumming of my necklace failed to cease, The mountain's rocky outcrop was anything but comfortable, and the cold air blew through the mountains constantly. I was dissapointed in myself. I knew I pushed myself to my maximum ability, But I was sure she couldn't go for 13 days like I could. I had wasted precious time. By now, she was probably two hundred miles over. and god knows in what direction! This was becoming tedious. It was clear that I would have to head home. My master would know. He always did. I took off wearily, hoping to see some unfortunate woodland animal on my way back home for takeout. No more games. This wa smore serious then ever.
