Chapter 1

Wolf

My name is Ace
My name is Ace. My hair is red. My dad’s alive. My mom is dead. I’m never happy. Always sad. I cry a lot. Because I’m mad. I’m mad at her. I’m mad at him. I’d wish they’d see, how he’s been. They don’t know, how life’s at home. For me, it’s bad, police should come. Come and see, it’s just not right. My dad hits with all his might. It hurts real bad. Sometimes I wish, that it’s all gone. But then he hits. Then it’s time, that he arrives. He walks in over to our knives. He grabs those knives and looks at me, Tonight my Daddy murdered me.
When I was killed by my father, I didn’t expect this. Any of it, though I might have been dreaming. Dreaming as my soul struggled between life and death. That sounds more realistic than what I am about to tell you. You won’t believe me, no doubt. I barely believe myself. Sometimes I lie to myself and say it was all real. Sometimes I tell myself that it was a dream. Either way, it was the best thing that happened to me. It all started as I fell to the floor bleeding.
Chapter 1
I didn’t open my eyes because I thought I was dead. I imagined my soul drifting through the sky. I didn’t want to see the world I was leaving behind. It was so peaceful lying here. Suddenly I heard a voice call to another. I couldn’t tell what they said for they were mumbling. I felt warm arms pick my weak body up. When I opened my eyes, my mind went crazy and my heart started pounding. I wasn’t at home, or floating through the sky. I didn’t even know where I was. I tried to ask questions, but my mouth wasn’t working. I could open my mouth but no sound would come out. I looked up at the person carrying me and saw that he was human. I don’t exactly know what I was expecting him to be. I tried to talk again but he made a shushing sound and gently closed his eyes. For some reason, it made me calm down a bit. I still didn’t know what happened to me or where I was but all I knew is that I wanted to sleep. But I didn’t let my eye-lids fall and my mind drift off. The world was so interesting and I wanted to see where I was going so I stayed awake and took in all of my surroundings.
This place seemed like a whole other universe but at the same time, it seemed so similar. The blue sky and green grass were all the same, but it was all so different. There were castles and cottages, cows and rats, men and women. But it seemed as though everything was as It was in the late 1700s. I know that it sounds crazy but then again, it could be a dream. But if it was, why did it all feel so real? Why could I feel the warm and strong arms lifting me? Why could I feel the soft breeze?
I was now being carried through a village, a small and fragile looking village. Women dressed in corsets and men wearing capes dashed around the cobble streets. It was then that I looked down and saw myself in a ragged looking dress. Faded white and rips it was still comfortable. No one seemed to notice me much. You would think that at least one person would look up from their business. I brushed those thoughts aside and focused on more important things. I didn’t know where I was or who I was with. I didn’t try speaking again though I tried to catch the young man’s eye so he could see that the girl he was carrying had no idea what was going on. That didn’t work. He then turned down a dirt path branching out from the market of the village and began to whistle as he carried me further.
He gently set me down on a lumpy bed inside a small cottage probably meant for one or two people. Since I couldn’t speak, I just sat there giving the boy looks. This was the first time I looked at him properly. He had shaggy black hair that hung in his eyes which were a bright blue. Sixteen years of age seemed about right.
“Go to sleep,” He whispered as he kneeled down beside me. “I’ll be back in the morning.”
I laid back and fell asleep instantly. I had many strange dreams of what would happen next to me. When I woke in the morning, he was back.
“I’m sorry for not properly introducing myself. My name is Wolfbane Creel. Most call me Wolf.”
He put out his hand for me to shake. Wolf’s hand was warm and gentle but I could sense that he had much more strength.
“And I am Ace Beckman. Nice to meet you Wolf.” I said as I found my voice was back. Strange name, Wolf was, but I tried not to think about that. I knew others probably were thinking the same about me. Maybe today he could tell me about this weird place. Who he is, who everyone is, why I’m here.
I stood up and found that my legs were a bit wobbly, after a few seconds, I regained my balance. I looked over at Wolf and decided I wanted to find out the answers now. I regretted that later.
He started explaining with every detail from the minute I asked and finished shortly after noon.
This place, or country, was called Vingrahl. It was a small country compared to the others. It was simply here for new comers. Whenever a person passed away, if their soul was strong and they hadn’t lived a happy life on earth, their soul would come here. Only some of the finest would come through the Gates of Ellvia. The Gates of Ellvia were crystal gates just outside the universe. If souls were strong, they would slip through and be welcomed. If not, the souls would be rejected and sent to Heaven or Hell. Vingrahl was the city of craftsman. Home of the finest blacksmiths and weavers in this world.
There were four other countries ( five in total ). One for each path. Once one had passed trials of strength, speed, endurance, and brains, they could choose a path. There was the path of an bowman, who specialized in archery. They lived in Anasoss, the biggest of countries. Archers usually had a medium build and wild imaginations. Most were animal lovers.
Another country, Klehdon, was home of the warriors. The strongest of humans. Known for thier strength, warriors would carry heavy metal armor and a long sword or spear. Another thing, Every weapon was hand crafted with gifts. Each weapon was made for a certain soul.
Eallioss, was a country covered in lush forests was home to the magicians. Magicians carried a wand or a staff and were usually the brainy type. They were probably the most religious out of all knights.
Knights were humans who dedicated their lives to training for when there comes time for a war. And lives were long here, every five years, you would age one year. Knights were highly respected and were part of the council.
The shadowed land was called Vearnahss. It was place of the night walkers, vampires. They were not considered evil, but were not considered to be on the light side. Most did not interfere with other countries too often. They were strong, fast, and lived for hundreds of years.
Where I was right now, was Vingrahl, one small country in the world of Yindtes.
Wolf and I were just finishing up tea just outside the market. Wolf was a good story teller, he mentioned every detail and never slowed or thought about what to say. He told me to leave my questions until the end of his explanation because he claimed he wouldn’t leave out a thing. He was right. But there were something’s that I did want to know about Wolf. How old is he? What path will he be traveling? Why is he helping me? These questions will have to wait until later because just then I just started to realize that people had been staring at me all day. Not just staring at me, but at my clothes. Here I was in the city of craftsman and clothe-weavers, dressed in this old, ratty looking dress. I looked down and studied my gown again. This time Wolf noticed and suggested we find Celia. Celia was a local weaver that made beautiful gowns. I complained that I hadn’t any money but Wolf said it was on him. I think he would be my first real friend here.
