Chapter 1
The Storys Just Beginning.
I never the type of girl that complained much. Except when something came along, growing up where I lived was easy, sometimes hard but thats okay, I was used to it. My parents were in love, my sisters were the best I could ask for, my brother always looked out for me. The main problem in my life: I was a half-caste. And ever since they invaded they had been taking us away.. My one and only friend Narrah and his little sister Yani had been taken away because they were half-caste. I didnt want that for me and my brother and sisters. We have been lucky to escape and not been noticed by authorities.
"YINDI! MEERA! KYEEMA!" Mother shouted.
"Coming Wiyanga (Mother)." Meera called.
"Now duruninangs (Daughters)." She called out.
"Yes, Wiyanga?" Asked Yindi when we got to mother.
"Biyanga (Father) and Parri are over the hill fishing, go and get them its almost time for food." She explained.
"Okay Wiyanga." I smiled at my beautigul mother, Alinga.
Me, Yindi and Meera began the long walk up the hill. It was early summer in 1962, the gentle breeze on our faces, the dirt road we walked on hard against our bare feet.
"Meera?" Yindi asked.
"Yes Yindi?" Meera looked at our little sister.
"Narrah and Yani, they were taken away? Why? They werent happy with their family?" She asked.
"Yindi, when the time comes we will tell you." Meera said not wanting to upset her. A tear slid down my cheek.
"Kyeema, dont cry dearest sister. We will see Narrah and Yani one day soon." She comforted me. We were nearly at the peak of the hill. We heard a car rumble and we turned and looked and there was a black car driving up the hill.
"Kyeema, Meera? Why is there a car?" Yindi asked.
"I dont know, but quick duck down near the rock."Meera instructed us. Me and Yindi ducked down behind the rock and Meera walked slowly up. The car was soon behind us a white man jumped out and another one did too, they talked in their language but we where used to it because of father. We were taught both English and our language.
"Where are they?" The first man yelled. It took Meera a while.
"Who?" She asked softly.
"DONT YA ACT DUMB WITH ME! YER HEAR! YER SISTERS! WHERE ARE THEY!" The second man yelled at her, she looked very scared.
"Uh, they not here?" She asked more the said.
"I seen em." The first man said.
"They not here.." She said.
"Okay, were dun start this over. Im Phillip and this is Mark, we work for the government." The first man said.
"Ok.." Meera said.
"We dun come collect ya and yer sisters and brother!" The man named Mark yelled.
"We didnt do anything, Sir." She said.
"Yer are half-castes. Its ourjob to come collect.. ya." The first man said.
"But Sir, Im going to get some water, for our village." She explained.
"No, dont ya lie.. scum, we know yer sisters are with ya!" The second man said getting violent.
"No sir, I swear to you.." She said. Meera was good at this.
"Fine we are just dun take ya then." Said Phillip, grabbing her wrist. and slamming her into the car door. Yindi jumped up.
"Leave her!!" She yelled at the men.
'I KNEW YA WERE LYING!" Said Mark.
"No, I werent lying, I didnt want to tell you." She whispered. Phillip seized her harder and slamed her head into the door.
She moaned in pain. Mark grabbed Yindi and threw her in the car. Phillip pushed Meera into the car.
"I know ya out here." Phillp yelled.
"Come out missy." Mark yelled.
"No point hiding, we checked out the case and we know theres three of ya girlies. STAND UP NOW!" Phillip yelled.
