Again It Rains
Chapter 1
Again It Rains
You can smell rain before you see it, before you hear it, before you feel it. It smells alive and fresh, like a brand new start. And then you see it. Tiny drops of water falling from the heavens, falling through the air until a window gets in their way, and they slide down the pane of glass, each one racing the other until they reach the end. And then they drop of the window, and start falling all over again. When you are inside, warm and safe, and outside it is raining, you can hear it on the roof. Patter patter patter, like little footsteps. The footsteps follow you where ever you go, whether you are driving down a speedy free way, or walking through the park, you can always hear them around you, never seeming to give up.
But when you feel the rain, that's when the true magic happens. It falls onto the top of your head first, and then slowly drips down your neck. It soaks into your skin and you can feel it washing off all the things that are weighing you down. You close your eyes and just feel it, feel how it runs down your skin. You are no longer filled with little patches of darkness, you are filled with light. In the rain, you feel yourself come alive, and you realise that you can breathe freely once again.
And then, the rain stops. The sun comes out to shine, the hot burning sun, and you start to love summer, and forget about the rain. You laugh and love, but you also cry and scream. You lose someone you love, you ignore the ones that love you and you make mistakes. Not the same mistakes as last summer, but different ones. Ones that you are not sure how to fix. As the summer keeps on going, hot day after hot day, you are filled with regret, with remorse, you are still filled with love. But not the love that makes you fill warm and safe, the type of love that hurts inside you, that makes you wish that you never loved, that you don't love. And no matter how hard you try, you cannot stop wanting to stay with that person, the one you let down, the one who let down you. You've lost sight of what is truly you, all you want is another chance, all you want is a fresh start.
Every day, the sun climbs up high into the sky, except for one day, where it doesn't seem to make it. It hangs, half way between here and there, doing its best to still blaze, but it seems to be flickering. And then, you smell something. Something you cannot remember, something you've forgot. It smells alive, it smells fresh. You run outside and look up at the sky.
A beautiful drop of water is falling gracefully from above you. You can see it coming closer and closer towards you until it lands softly on your face. It lands so daintily, but inside, it hits you hard. More drops fall, quickly one after another, and you remember the summer. You remember the pain and the love, the laughter and the mistakes, the regret, the heartbreak. And then you remember a time before the summer, a time where it use to rain.
You can feel the rain washing over your skin, cleansing your soul. It is washing off your pain, it is cleaning out the wound so you can start to heal. Something ignites inside of you, and you are filled with light. You can stand up straight and you are shining. You feel alive and you no longer feel like all you can do is give up. There are endless possibilities now, and thousands of doors you can open, all you have to do is pick one. You suddenly realise that you can breathe freely.
And again it rains.
