Chapter 1
Chapter 1 The Belikovs
I was running. Running away from my house, away from my fears. I felt the cool wind whipping my dark hair against my face. My father would not find me if I had to keep running a hundred miles. The backpack on the my back was swinging wildly. It contained most of my belongings. I replayed what had happened in the house a million times in my head. How could I leave my dear sister, Aysha, at the house with my father. She was only a year younger than I. I must have gone a good five miles before I stopped. I placed my hands on my knees and breathed heavily. I sat on the moist ground in woods. I pulled a granola bar from my backpack and ate it savoring every bite.
Suddenly in the darkness a shadow came over me. I looked up and found myself staring at a gorgeous guy. He had dark brow hair down to his shoulders and the most beautiful dark brown eyes I had ever seen. I stood up realizing he was a full foot and a half taller than me.
"What are you doing here," he asked in a velvet voice.
"Ummm.......I......I," I stuttered not ready to tell this gorgeous stranger my story. He looked annoyed.
"Do you have any place to stay tonight?" He asked actually sounding concerned.
"No," I managed to whisper out.
"Come with me," he turned on his heel. I picked up my backpack then ran to keep up with him. He led me to a medium-sized cottage. He opened the door and walked inside.
"I'm Dimitri Belikov," I heard him say.
"I'm Lena Gomez," I replied. The cottage looked like a regular house on the inside. I saw two girls one looked to be a couple years older than Dimitri the other a couple years younger, they were both sitting on a couch watching TV. They looked up when they heard the door close.
"Dimitri?" One asked. He came into view.
"Who's this?" The other asked.
"This is Lena. Lena this is Sonya and Karolina my sisters," he introduced. They both smiled warmly. Then a women with brown hair came down the stairs.
"Dimka, your home." It took me a couple of seconds to figure out she was talking to Dimitri. My father, sister, and me moved to Russia a few moths ago after my mom died and we still weren't up to code with the language and nicknames. We were surprised by how many bilingual people lived in Russia. She looked over at me as if it were the first time she noticed me.
"Who is this?" She asked.
"This is Lena. Lena this is my mom Olena," he said then added,"Lena has no place to stay tonight." He gestured to me.
"Then she will stay here," Olena replied. He smiled knowingly.
"I had a feeling you would say that," he said keeping the smile in place.
"Show her to the guest room," Olena said gesturing toward the stairs. Dimitri walked up the stairs and I followed. He brought me to the last room on the right and opened the door. I walked in and saw light green walls with black trimming. The bedspread was green and had so many pillows someone could probably get lost in them. The room was big and had three dressers one on each side of the bed against the walls and one in front of the bed that held a TV. There was a black couch beside the bed and a bookshelf on the other side. There was a desk beside the dresser with a TV on it. There was also an adjoined bathroom.
"Do you like it?" Dimitri asked noticing my fascination with the room.
"Yeah," I said in a low voice. Just then a girl that looked younger than me joined Dimitri at the door she had golden highlights in her dark brown hair and like Dimitri had dark brown eyes.
"Dimka!" she said clearly happy to see him. Then she looked to me and added,"Who is this." She looked me up and down.
"This is Lena, Lena this is my sister Viktoria,"he introduced us for what seemed like the millionth time. I smiled. I then realized I still had on my ginormous backpack which was filled so much it barely zipped. I set the backpack on the bed.
"Well, I'll leave you to unpack your backpack. If you get hungry there are leftovers on the counter," he told me.
"Thank you," I said in gratitude. He left me standing there, Viktoria went with him. Eating was the last thing I felt like doing. I unzipped my bag and took all my clothes out putting them in the dressers. I also put out pictures of me and my friends and me and my sister. I had brought my laptop and cell-phone which I was lucky my dad didn't know my number and glad my sister did. I sat my laptop and cell-phone on the dresser on the right side of the bed. I then put on really short shorts and a tight shirt that showed half an inch of my stomach. Then I pulled my hair into a ponytail and climbed into bed.I turned out the light and drifted to sleep.
The next day I woke up and walked downstairs. There was a boy about ten at the table and Karolina held a baby girl. Karolina looked up and smiled.
"Lena this is my son Paul and daughter Bria, Paul this is Lena
"How many piercings do you have?" Paul asked. Viktoria and Dimitri were also at the table.
"Paul that's not a nice question," scolded Karolina.
"No, its alright," I reassured her as I mentally counted them then answered,"eight."
"Where?" Paul asked.
"Two in each ear, nose, lip, tongue, and belly button," I told him. He looked completely fascinated which made me smile. I sat at the table in front of Viktoria. Sonya had already apparently left for work. Olena was cooking and placed a plate of blini in front of me. I had had blini when we first moved to Russia. They were thin pancakes layered with butter and jam. I ate the Russian food silently. Soon I had nothing left on my plate. I was hungrier than I thought. I had only had the granola bar last night. I put my plate in the sink but Olena declined my offer of help.
"Why don't you go with Lena to her room Viktoria," Olena suggested. Viktoria stood up and followed me to my room. I sat on my bed with my laptop and got on Facebook. I was looking around on Facebook when Viktoria asked a question I didn't expect.
"Dimitri told us how he found you.......Why were you in the woods," she asked.
