Chapter One

What a lesson. Ashley couldn't believe she had forgotten her essay-it was for her GCSE coursework too... Oh well. It was lunch next, and the idea of half an hour with Abbie lightened her spirit considerably.
Pushing her other thoughts aside, Ashley forced her way through the bustling corridor to the canteen, where she quickly spotted her girlfriend and collapsed onto the empty seat beside her. Seeing that she was stressed, Abbie slid her arm around Ashley's shoulders and leaned her head against hers.
"You ok, hun?" she asked.
"Yeah... I am now." Ashley smiled, and sat up, Abbie's arm slipping to her waist so she could eat.

It was the middle of December, and Ashley and Abbie were walking home. They only lived a couple of streets apart, and most days Abbie would go back to Ashley's for an hour or two, or the other way round. Both girls were buttoned up in winter coats, and in a fit of gallantry Ashley had wrapped her scarf round Abbie's neck.
"So," she said. "You coming over to mine?"
"Ok, but I can't stay for long," Abbie replied. "I've, um, got lots of homework, what with GCSE's and everything."
Ashley sympathised, having messed up with her own homework organisation earlier, and soon they arrived at her house. As usual, they headed straight upstairs to Ashley's bedroom. As soon as she had closed the door, Ashley slid her arms around Abbie's waist from behind her and buried her head in the back of her neck.
"If you've only got an hour..." she murmured. Abbie laughed.
"Do you ever stop?" But she turned round, slid her hands into Ashley's hair and kissed her gently. Ashley's tongue broke through her lips and she walked forwards so that they tripped over the bed and fell onto the covers. Ashley pushed herself up onto her knees and let her tongue find it's own way around Abbie's mouth as Abbie's hands moved up from her waist and up her shirt, finally reaching the underwire of her bra and sliding her fingers along underneath.
"Sure you can't stay longer...?" Ashley breathed 15 minutes, shirt and bra later.
Abbie started and sat up. What was the time? She looked at the clock-it had only been 45 minutes, but really, unless she left now... she didn't want to miss it...
"I think I have to go," she said apologetically. Ashley looked disappointed.
"You said you could stay an hour," she said in a small voice, wrapping her arms round Abbie's shoulders and looked up into her eyes. "15 minutes more?"
"You know I want to, but I really have to go," Abbie insisted. "Anyway, it gets dark early now, and if there's frost on the ground I need to be able to see."
"Fine... want me to walk you home?"
"Um-no, I'll be fine, s'long as I leave now."
Abbie suddenly seemed in a rush. She pulled her shirt over her head and shoved her boots on. She buttoned her coat up as they walked downstairs, and Ashley waved her off as she set off into the cold evening air.

Abbie walked quickly. Although she had mentioned the frost to Ashley it was far from her mind now, and she reached her house ten minutes later. As soon as she got in she hung her bag and coat over the hooks in the hall, called a greeting to her parents and younger brother in the living room and dashed up the two flights of stairs to her attic bedroom.
Slightly out of breath she dropped herself down onto the bed and pulled out her laptop. She waited impatiently for it to wake up, but as soon as it did she was rewarded with the BLEEP which told her she had a new message. And she had been worried he wouldn't bother.
