Chapter 4: Demetri

I swam around calmly in the ocean for awhile. Then I decided to swim farther and maybe explore a cave that was nearby a few feet away.

At first, everything seemed calm and peaceful. But then, just as I had neared the cave, I spotted a large dark fin sticking out of the water, floating slowly. I tried to figure out what it was, then it hit me. Shark! I started swimming back toward the shore, having no idea that the shark was swimming after me.

I swam as fast as I could for a minute, then I stopped and turned around. The shark was zooming toward me now! I let out a loud bloodcurdling scream as the shark’s head came out of the water and opened his mouth. He was about to chomp down on me when something shoved him back underwater. The shark’s top jaw came down on my arm, only managing to leave a tooth stuck in there. I screamed in pain as my arm started bleeding. I started crying, too.

Then someone pulled me fast out of the water by my wounded arm. That someone gently put me down on the floor of a boat. My vision was blurry because of my crying, and I couldn’t see a thing.

Then something hit the boat hard, tipping me back into the water. I fell into the ocean with a splash, then came up out of the surface. I gasped for air. I looked around, the boat had tipped over completely and was now upside down.

Then something grabbed my leg and pulled me back underwater. It was a person, but because of my still blurry vision, I couldn’t see what the person looked like. I could tell the person was a male. He threw me onto his back and wrapped my arms around his neck. He then started swimming fast through the water.

He kept swimming, never stopping until we had gotten to a safe place. After a few minutes, I passed out.

It must have been like, close to 5:00 in the evening or something. ‘Cause when I woke up, the sun was almost down and it was close to dark. I sat up and looked around. I was laying on a patch of grass, on a sandy beach or something. I looked down at my arm, somebody had wrapped a large peace of clothing around my wound. I unwrapped the clothing slowly and gently. The wound looked a bit deep, but at least it wasn’t bleeding anymore.

I stood up slowly and looked around again. It looked like I was on an island, but I wasn’t so sure. I walked a few steps, turned around, and looked up. I had been laying under a small cliff. I jogged around, trying to find a way to climb up there. After a few minutes, I finally decided to climb the rocks if I wanted to get to the top of the cliff.

I climbed carefully, trying not to get myself injured anymore.

I finally reached the top of the small cliff. Close to the edge of the cliff, I looked around once more. I was definitely on an island. It looked like a large island, too. I looked behind me, and spotted a large field of grass. No flowers, though, much to my disappointment.

I climbed back down the rocks and jogged to the field. The grass was tall and soft. It made me smile a little. The soft grass reached up to my waist.

Suddenly, my stomach growled. I winced. I had forgotten about the biscuits and Junior Mints in my pocket. They were probably soggy by now. But when I reached into my pocket, I pulled out the food and found that it dry. Just like what they had been when I first pulled them out.

I took a bite out of the first biscuit, it tasted good. Sort of like what my mother used to make. I walked through the sea of grass, eating the biscuits.

Then I heard a chuckle. I turned around and saw a guy dressed in a cloak. But he wasn’t like what Vladimir and Stefan were wearing, his clothes were different than theirs. And he didn’t wear gloves like what the vampires did. He had brown frosted hair, crimson red eyes, though they had a tint of black in them, and had very pale skin. He was muscular too, though I couldn’t really see through layers of clothes and cloak he was wearing. He also wore a V-shaped pendant with black and red jewels. The chain and pendant looked like they could be made of real gold.

He walked toward me, his gait ghost-like and graceful. He had his hands behind his back. He smiled at me, he reminded me of how the vampires from early this morning had smiled at me. I shuddered.

He stopped a few inches in front of me, towering over me and smiling pleasantly. I didn’t really like it when people towered over me. It made me feel like a shrimp. I’m short for my age, I had gotten it from my mother.

The red-eyed guy brushed a strand of my hair away, and caressed my jaw line. He smiled pleasantly at me again before lowering his head and whispering in my ear.

“You smell good, you know.”
