He Was A Boy...

by: Missin
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Megan asked me, helping me with my hair. "Positive." "But what if you get caught?" "I won't get caught! This plan is fool proof." She sighed and said, "It will ruin your reputation if anyone finds out." I closed my eyes and said, "I know."

I blame my current situation on my boyfriend, Jet. When we first met, I was only 14, so I wasn't sure what I wanted yet, and I wasn't sure what else the world had to offer. Jet is one of those tough, bad boys. He's also 2 years older than me. We first met at a party. It was my first big party and I only knew my best friend, Megan, who disappeared into the crowd. I sat down on the couch and Jet sat next to me. We started talking, and by the end of the night he was my boyfriend. I was just a little girl who felt loved for the first time.

But now, 2 years later, I wish I had never gone to that party. There have been rumors going around that Jet has been cheating on me. They've been going around for a few months, and, of course, when I ask Jet about it, he acts all innocent, saying 'Why would you accuse me of such a thing?!' But I had to know. If he was, he would be in some big trouble.

The only problem is, I have a reputation to keep up. Not to sound narcissistic, but I am one of the most popular girls at my school. If anyone found out what I was doing, my reputation would be shot.

My plan is simple; pretend to be a boy, hang around the same places Jet hangs around, become friends with him, and find out the truth. Now, you may think 'Why not just dump him?!' Well, I can't just dump him. You see, at my school, if you're popular and you dump someone, they want a good story. If I just dump him because I thought he was cheating on me, people would start rumors.

They would make up insane rumors just to make our break up more interesting. If I find out that he is cheating on me, no insane rumors will form. I know, confusing. But that's life at Lake View Prep. High School.

I zoned back in on Megan, who was still trying to fit all of my hair into the hat. She was freaking out, saying things like "I'm sorry, but I can't be friends with a no body. NO ONE can find out..." You see, Megan is my best friend, but I didn't chose her to be my friend. We were just pushed together because we were both so popular. Honestly, I hate her. But, again, I can't dump her as my best friend, or my reputation will be shot. She finally got all my hair into the hat and I said, "Well, how do I look?" She held up a full length mirror; I found out a few years ago that if I flip my hair up just right, and pull my hair up into a hat, it will look like I have short hair. I wore a padded shirt, long jeans and skater shoes.

She shook her head and said, "You look like a boy. But..." "But what?" "Your voice is kind of high." I rolled my eyes. "It doesn't matter. I've met guys my age with higher voices. No one will notice." "Remember, if anyone finds out, I'm dumping you as my best friend." I rolled my eyes again. "Fine." I walked out to my car and called Jet to activate my plan. Ring. Ring. "Hello?" "Hey, Jet. It's Shelby. I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out today?" "Sorry, babe, I can't. I'm gonna be at the skate park all day." I smiled. "Okay, bye!" And I hung up and drove off. Now all I need to do is go down to the skate park and try to talk to him as a guy. This will get interesting.
