Chapter 1

The Beginning

Don't you hate it when you're in one of those dreams where you feel like you're never going to wake up? Well, I know how it feels. It happened to me all the time. I'm Lindsay Clarke, and I'm going to tell you my story, what hopefully won't ever be repeated...

**************************************************************************************

I can't remember it exactly, all the fine details, but I remember running from something, a black shadow, under the moon. But it always wakes me up. I always feel lonely, unwanted, but tortured in a way. Like I've got nothing to live for. But that shadow, it creeps me out. Its always there, with its greedy red eyes watching me closely.

I've never really been close to anyone in school, I've never had a true best friend. I tend to keep to myself. I have a couple of friends who I talk to in class, but there not my best friends. I suppose I'm ok, academic wise. Im not that dumb, but I certainly wouldn't get into grammar school. My Dad? Well, he went to prison last year for breaking an entry. He is out this year, but my Mum is not interested in him anymore. This maybe boring, but its worse. When I first moved here, I got told that apparently, a Phantom lives here, and if you say his name twice, he haunts you, tortues you, possesses you, then kills you. But I didnt believe any of this. I thought it was a load of rubbish. But my friends, who love daring people all the time, decided to have a sleepover. Alesha, Megahn, and I slept at Aleshas' house, and of course they dared me to say Phantom of Death twice. I did, because I thought it was a joke, which it wasn't. It's even worse than that.

"Phantom of Death, Phantom of Death." I said casually.
"Well, lets hope you dont get possessed!" Said Megahn, wearily.
"Megahn," I stressed. "Its all a load of rubbish."
"Well you never know! It could be true!"
"Says a person who gets scared of anything..." Im mumbled. Megahn rolled her eyes. "Why dont you say it then?"
"Er, no. I'm ok thanks."
"See, you are scared! Anyway, enough of that, where is Alesha with the food?"
"Im here! Patience is a virtue, Lindsay!" Said Alesha, happily.
"Thankyou, I'm starving!" Exclaimed Megahn.
"So Lindsay, did you do the dare?" Asked Alesha, as she grapped a slice of pizza.
"Yes. It's just a load of... well is very stupid. Who came up with the idea that a ghost can kill you? They must of had a sad life." I said.
They both laughed.

Later that night, around 12pm.

"I think we may have to go to sleep." I said.
"Good idea. Im tired. Lindsay, you are on the bed, I'm on the floor and Megahn you are on the couch."
"Right, goodnight!" We said.
It took me ages to get to sleep. I was tossing and turning all the time. But when I finally got to sleep, I wish I hadnt. The dreams had started.

The blinding sun crept behind the sand dunes as I ran. It was like a desert, sun, sand and heat. My heart pounded like a drum in my chest. Then there was the shadow. The black, lonely, torturing shadow. Then the desert scene turned into night in a deserted town, under the bright moon which seemed very close. The cold breeze touched my skin, and it was like a knife cutting through me. The dark shadow fomed right in front of me this time, woth blood red eyes. I ran. It somehow managed to chase me into a alley way, and it cornered me. I slid down the wall and hoped for the best. Then something tapped me on the shoulder, so I turned around very slowly. But there was nothing. Something moved so quick towards my face, and the gleaming red eyes were there, watching me...
I woke up with a start, beads of sweat dripping off me. An image of the eyes lurked in my mind, and will do forever...

That is how my story started.
