In Another Life ~ An Allstar Weekend Love Story

Dinner was a low key affair. I left early because it was awkward and I was bored to tears. I ran upstairs and began to pack for tomorrow. I was so excited but I had no clue what I was going to wear so I spent over an hour planning. Eventually I went to sleep wondering what the new day would bring. I woke up late next morning I only had half an hour to get change, eat breakfast and panic about today. At 5 past 8 the doorbell rang and I shouted my goodbyes to my mom and Alex before swinging the door open to reveal Zach. He was amused.
“You’re late,” he said smiling.
“Aw, c’mon on! Only by 5 minutes! That’s nothing.” He laughed and led me to his car, well jeep. I sat in the passenger seat and as soon as he had strapped himself in passed me over his phone which I held looking confused. ‘Why..?” I started
“Tap your number in and phone yourself to get mine,” he answered my puzzled look. I did and slipped his phone back in his bag after. “Are you excited?” he quizzed
“Slightly but I think I’m more nervous than anything else.”
“You don’t have to be, nobody is absolutely horrible, I think.” He laughed at my worried expression. “I’m joking, I’m joking!”
“Oh. Okay then.” We didn’t live that far away from school so we were soon there, packed and ready to go.
“Do you want me to come to the front office with you? So you can sign in?” he asked as he locked the car. I accepted and we made our way to a door. Inside the building there was a wooden desk with a lady sitting on the other side talking to someone on the phone and eating toast. She put it down when she saw me and cooed.
“You’re new!” she exclaimed. I really felt like talking sarcastically back to her but I restrained myself. “lemme guess… Lucy?” I shook my head and looked over to Zach who looked as if he was struggling not to life. “No, no… Haley!” I nodded. She passed over some leaflets and other pieces of paper, “Here, they are your timetable, locker number and key and some maps. Have a good first day!” I stared down at the paper in my hands and back up to Zach.
“C’mon,” he said and pushed me out of the small room into a hall where he took one of paper away from me and examined it. I took the envelope with my locker key and number out of the pile and shoved it into my jeans pocket and with the rest I dropped into my bag. I looked up at Zach. “We’re in the same classes for… 6 subjects and same form room. Awesome! The rest of the school got theirs delivered by post.” He gave me back the sheet which I place in my pocket along with the key. We made our way into the classroom where everyone was talking about their summer holidays and everything that had happened to them throughout the 3 months with no school. As soon as the door closed, Zach was engulfed in a group of people quizzing him about his holidays. I quietly made my way over to a seat at the back. Soon everyone started to notice me and came up to talk to me with the most common phrase being ‘you’re new here right?’ It started to get tedious but I met Becca who sat next to me and wouldn’t shut up. Zach came over and smiled in my direction and sat in the seat in front of me and pointed at two boys he introduced as Nathan who had dreads and Michael who was sitting in the seat in front of him. Eventually another boy entered who sat in the seat next to Zach. Immediately he spun around on his chair and smiled at me and then at Becca.
“Hi,” he said. “New here? I’m Cameron-”
“And he’s a douche,” Becca added. Cameron scorned at her turning slightly pink then turned back to start talking to Zach. “He’s a little sensitive.” She smirked.
“I can see that.”
My first lesson was math. I sat in the seat near the back again and Cameron collapsed himself next to me and was breathing heavily. I stiffened.
“Are you alright?” I asked him
“What? Oh, yeah, ran,” He panted. The teacher entered and the class began. Throughout Mr Kenny’s droning on I could have sworn Cameron kept looking at me so I kept my head down and looked at my pencil case. When the bell rang I shoved my stuff in my bag and left but Cameron was too fast and grabbed her shoulder and asked, “What have you got next?”
“Err, History, you?” I replied.
“Biology. Did you understand what Kenny was on about?”
“Yeah. It’s pretty simple once you get it.”
“So… Will you help me?” I nodded half heartedly. “Oh and I’m not a douche like Becca said. I mean she, well, I don’t know what her problem is-” He was interrupted by Zach,
“CQ! Wait up!” Cameron spun around to look at him and when he looked back I had already slipped away to History.
At lunch time, I walked to my locker and shoved my bag in it. There leaning against the locker next to mine was Zach. I smiled at him.
“Hey, how were your lessons?” He asked.
“They were okay I guess,” I mumbled. He laughed.
“You’ve got lunch money right?” I took 10 dollars out of my pocket and showed it to him. “Awesome. Wanna get some lunch with me, Becca, Cameron, Nathan, Mikey, Kat and Nick?” He didn’t wait for my answer but took my hand a rushed me along to the canteen. I sat down next to Nathan and Zach who introduced me to Kat and Nick. When Becca sat down opposite me, Cameron sat down next to her immediately and told her, “Can I talk to you later?” She ignored him. I could tell it was about her calling him a douche. Lunch was fun though. I don’t believe I’ve laughed so much in my life. At the end of the day Becca came up to me.
“You know what I said earlier about Cam? Well you shouldn’t believe it. He is a nice guy y’know. Maybe a little nervous with the ladies but you should go for it if you like him.” She said.
“Err, okay. Thanks, but I don’t think that will happen,” I told her. Sure, Cameron is hot but he seems just a little too desperate. I packed my bag full of work when Cameron came up to me and gave me a piece of paper with his number on it and told me to text him later. Finally Zach leaned up against my locker again.
“Ready?”
I looked at him confused, “for what?” He laughed
“Have you already forgotten, or would you like to walk home?” My hand slapped over my mouth automatically.
“Yeah. Whoops!” I said grabbing my bag and leaving with him.
