Hearts Beat Faster

I really want to get out of high school. Some people say it’s a fun time for them. For me it’s an unnecessary source of drama that I never get involved in. I already had enough to deal with as it is.
I stared at the clock for 4th period to be over. My geometry teacher was droning on about this one problem I had already solved, so I had nothing better to do. I started twirling my goldish red hair with my pencil. Finally the bell for lunch rang and I sped out the door, staying as far away from the other students in the hallway as possible. I try to avoid most people at my school because they’re idiots who probably would drop out of colleges a week in because it’s too hard.
“Hey Bailey! Wait up!” My pack member Catherine yelled, running towards me. She was one of the only people I do talk to at my school. Her and one of my other pack members, Danny. We’re all a part of a werewolf pack that’s made up of orphans and runaways. We found Danny sitting outside waiting for us where we normally sit, considering the cafeteria was crowded and too noisy for us.
“So anything interesting happen so far?” Danny asked as we sat down.
“If you consider my French teacher rambling on about how Michael Jackson shouldn’t have died JUST because a few people were talking about the “Thriller Dance” in the back of the room then yeah something interesting happened. If you don’t, well I got nothing” I said. Danny started laughing a little and Catherine smirked.
“Why were they talking about the “Thriller Dance” in the middle of class?” Danny asked taking a bite out of his sandwich.
“They were in ASB and were trying to think of themes for the Prom this year.”
“Wait why? The Prom isn’t for another two months!” Danny asked.
“I don’t know, ASB likes planning early I guess. So anything happened to you that was as exciting as that?”
“Not that can compete with that.” Catherine smiled, then she became serious, “Someone’s coming out here.”
“Who?” I asked suddenly realizing there was a scent getting stronger.
“I can’t tell but whoever it is they smell like tuna and they seriously put on WAY too much cologne.” Catherine said wrinkling her nose in disgust and Danny plugged his nose. Then the door opened and we saw a boy I didn’t recognize. He wore a long, black coat that went down to about his ankles with a black shirt, black jeans, and black formal shoes. He looked around my age. I could barely see his eyes under his long hair, which was black with red streaks in it. His face was stern he scanned the outdoor area and his eyes stopped on mine. My heart skipped a beat when he cracked a small smile. Then he turned away and walked to the tree near where we were sitting and sat down against it.
“who the hell is he?” Danny asked glancing over at him.
“I don’t know.” I replied. I turned my head to see he was staring at me. I turned back quickly and my cheeks flushed red.
“Whoever he is, Bailey seems to like him,” Catherine smirked.
“What?” I laughed “I don’t even know his name! Why would I like him?”
“Cause he’s a hot, emo dude,” Catherine said.
“And why does him being emo matter?” I asked confused.
“Cause every girl loves emo guys,” Danny said sarcastically.
“Not true, lesbians don’t like emo guys.” I said.
“Whatever. Point is, He’s emo and you think he’s hot.” Danny said a little loudly.
“Shut up!” I hissed, looking over my shoulder I could see the mystery boy smirking a little, Which means he heard Danny.
“Why the hell do you love torturing me so much?” I asked annoyed.
“Because that’s what pack members are for.” Danny said half jokingly.
“Damn you!” I yelled with my mouth filled with pizza.
As we continued eating I felt the boy’s eyes on me. I would glance over at him and he would be looking at me. It was like that until the warning bell rang. I got up, gathering my things, and looked over at where he was. He was gone.
