550 people die from suicide in Oregon per year; make that 551. It was the middle of October and homecoming was just two days away. The mall was overflowing with frantic teens searching for the perfect outfit. I, on the other hand, had already had my eye on the winning dress.

"I'm getting it. This is the dress," I held the silky purple gown up to me while looking myself over in the mirror and twirling.

"I agree. Ohh, Addison is going to love it!" My best friend Charlotte, Charlie for short, and I had been friends for years. We started off as enemies, but when my best friend, at the time, Kat, moved away, everything changed.

"Look at what the cat dragged in," laughed Charlie maliciously. Kat had recently moved back to town. No one knew why and no one would ask or even approach her. I never saw her talking to anyone at school, but when she would pass me in the halls, her eyes would tell everything. I'm the only person that could tell when something was wrong.

"Hello? Earth to Sky? Whats gotten into you lately? You're all spacey," I shook myself out of the trance I was in, to notice Charlie's glare.

"Sorry, I've just been thinking."I looked back at Kat and swore I saw her mouthing you did it. For some reason, my blood started to rush. What could she have meant by that? I looked back across the store where Kat had once stood, to find her nowhere in sight.

"Ugh, come on Sky! Let's just buy the dresses and get out of here. We have to figure out how we're doing our hair!" I was next to positive that I had seen her mouth that.



Later that night, I walked into my house with the same odd feeling I was having at the mall. Something just wasn't right.

"Honey, you're just in time for dinner," Mom called. I walked into the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water.

"Sweetie, are you alright? You don't look so good," She walked over and checked my forehead. "Hmm, no fever."

"It's just been a long day. I need some sleep."

"Okay honey. I'll save you some dinner if you get hungry later."



I walked upstairs with heavy feet and fell into bed with a large sigh. I stared at my ceiling for awhile. Breaking the silence, a scratching on my window startled me. I got up from my bed and made my way over to the window. I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Everything was where I had left it. I turned to go lay back down when I saw Kat sitting there, covered in blood, smiling at me. Her hair was mess up and hid most of her face. Her skin was stark white, almost translucent. Her eyes were like unending black holes.

"Hello Sky." I fell to the floor in complete terror and pushed myself back until I reached the wall, but that wasn't far enough.
