The Wish

"Shut up mom!" Amber screamed at her mom.
"Get back here!" Her mom yelled. Amber ran up to her room and slammed the door. She ran to her small, uncomfortable, bed. She smushed her face into her pillow and cried. It was like this everyday. Amber came home from school and her mom, drunk and angry, yelled at Amber. Amber begged her to stop yelling, then she started threatening Amber. Then beating.
Suddenly Amber's mom came busting into the room. Amber jerked her head up and scrambled to the corner of her bed, cowering. Amber's mom was running towards Amber, almost falling over she was so wasted. She grabbed Amber's long, golden brown hair, and dragged her across the room. "Let go of me!" Amber screamed trying to jerk away, only making it worse. Her mom jerked her up and slammed her face into the bedroom door...... several times. After about 20 minutes, she slammed Amber's face into the floor and stomped out of the room. Amber got a tissue and wiped the blood from her face, she only had a couple more boxes left, she uses almost a box of tissues every day. It was almost time for her to go to bed. She threw on her thin, scratchy pajamas and laid down in her bed. Right before she closed her eyes, she saw a star outside her window. But it didn't look like an ordinary star, brighter, bigger, magical. She opened her window and climbed out onto the roof.
"I wish my life was better." She whispered. She climbed back in and went to sleep.

The next morning

Amber woke up and stretched. She looked around, everything was the same. Her wish didn't work. She went downstairs to get some cereal. Her dad was there making pancakes.
"Dad? What are you doing?"
"I'm making pancakes for you Amber! What else?"
"Where's mom?"
"Don't you remember? She died when you were six!" He responded.
