Chapter 1
Asbeth
In the land of Polynay, the oceans are vast, and ever so blue. They are ruled and protected by Asbeth, the water queen. She is a beautiful creature, who takes the form of a human with flowing black hair, and pale white skin. Her eye’s are as blue as the seas she protects, which sometimes look very intimidating. Many human men watch her form afar, but none have ever dared to get near, that is until today. A young man, in his early twenties, walks to the beach and calls out to Asbeth. Immediately water rises, and swirls, until the queen is standing before him. She looks around, then at him with raised eye brows. “Why have you called me?” The boy, seemingly un-phased by her utter beauty, walks closer to her with anxious eyes. “Asbeth for many years now, you have been alone protecting this ocean. It must be very lonely without anyone else with you. So I would like to help you guard the ocean.” The man explains. Asbeth is blown away by this human. Not just by what he said, but because he had the courage to approach her, something no other human has been able to do for along time. She realizes he really would be suitable for the job, but to be sure, she decided to give him a test. “What is your name?” The boy seems a little taken aback by the question. “Oh yes! My name! I forgot to tell you my name!” He laughs. “I’m Rofan.” Asbeth smiles at Rofan. There is something about this human, that is different then the rest. “Rofan, I will allow you to rule the oceans with me if you can fulfill my command.” Rofan nods eagerly, silently begging her to go on. “Tomorrow at sunset, you must bring me the thing that is most important to you. Don’t try to bring something meaningless, because I can read hearts. I’ll know if you’re lying.” Asbeth says. Rofan agrees to the task, then wonders away from the beach, back to his home
Once he is home, he tears up the house, searching for the thing that is most important to him. He really wants to be with Asbeth for the rest of eternity, watching the oceans. It has been his dream ever since his mother told him the story of how Asbeth came to be the water queen. Sad, and torn apart by the story, little Rofan promised his self one day he’d become water king, and forever be with Asbeth, so she’d never have to be lonely, or sad. Everyday he would go to the beach, and draw portraits of Asbeth. Now that he thought about it, Asbeth had always been very important to him. Even though he had never met her, he had some how fallen in love with her. Looking in his drawer, he grabbed his sketchbook, and held it tightly. He knew what he’d be bringing tomorrow at sunset.
At sunset the next day, Rofan proudly walked down to the beach, but this time he did not have to call out to Asbeth, because she was already there, waiting for him. Examining him thoroughly, she raises her eye brows confusedly. “You brought a book?” Rofan shakes his head, then opens the book. “This isn’t a book, its my sketchpad. It’ll help me explain the thing that is most important to me. Here.” He hands her the book. “Please look through it.” Asbeth takes the book, and begins to flip through it. She quickly realized that each picture was of her, or the ocean. They were beautifully drawn, with lots of detail. “You are the most important thing to me, and have been for almost my whole life. I really don’t know you that well, but I do know that you have a beautiful heart. I also know that I want to be with you forever.” As Rofan said this, tears rolled down Asbeths face. “You are a very strange human, Rofan. I am deeply touched by the amount of emotion you have for me.” She smiles her brightest smile, and offers her hand to him. “Though, I can hardly say I have the same emotion for you as you do for me, I do know that you will be a great water king. Please stay beside me forever, to help me rule the oceans, and so that I can hopefully return those feelings.” Rofan gladly takes her hand, and pulls her to him. “Thank you, my queen.” He whispers, wiping away her tears. Asbeth smiles, and giggles. Spending forever with this man will definitely be an adventure.
