It's All About Alex
story about a girl ...
Chapter 1
Part 3
“Maybe you should stop playing ‘Nazi Zombies’ for a while and switch over to like ‘Sonic’ or ‘Mario’ I mean ... that princess ... she needs a saving,” he laughed. “And you should totally lend me ‘Nazi Zombies’” he said, looking at me from the corner of his eyes.
“I will, just let me get the last level and it’s all yours. You can have it for the summer, but then again, I might not see you if I do,” I smirked.
“No you’re right, you won't.” He smiled devilishly.
That’s what I love about Jeremy, we can talk about anything. He can make me smile no matter how upset I am. He makes me laugh hysterically when I’m in a bad mood, but most of all he listens to what I have to say, no matter how stupid it is. AND we share a common love for video games.
I didn’t realize that we were at our school already when Jeremy asked what our first class was. “Umm, I think it is math, I’m not sure though. I’m pretty sure it’s math. Alana? What’s out first class?” I asked a girl who was approaching us. “Oh hello to you too Alex, yeah I’m fine, how about you?” she said sarcastically.
“I’m sorry. “Hello Alana, how are you this fine morning?”” I mimicked her with my best fed up face expression, but dying to laugh. Even though Alana tried to look tough and annoyed her pudgy face wasn’t made to look like that.
“Yeah it is math!” she said easing her face expression. That’s the Alana I’m used to. I’ve known her for six years. We are in the same class since the very first year. Although not being very popular since the very first day, I became good friends with her. She had very kind eyes. I’ve never met anyone with eyes that Alana has, very blue and pure.
“We’ve had math every Friday since the start of this year, and you still ask me that every Friday morning!” she exclaimed.
“You know I’m stupid,” I laughed.
“Yeah! Says the one who got 84% in the last test,” said Alana looking annoyed. It was as though she competed with me in math, and every subject we had together. Alana is very smart, but I have to admit, I’m a little bit smarter than her, at least in math.
“Now now, don’t be jealous,” I teased her.
“Oh wow, really? 84? Well done Alex,” said Jeremy, walking me and Alana to our math classroom.
I simply smiled at a thank you.
“No really! That’s kind of amazing, getting 84% in higher level math, especially coming so close to the final exams,” Jeremy looked very proud of me.
“Yeah.” Agreed Alana.
“Oh stop you too,” I said feeling a little awkward at all the praise I was getting, “You KNOW I’m a genius!” I laughed, trying to break the ice of the awkwardness I felt. Jeremy and Alana laughed, when the bell went. “Well I better go and face my own stupid class, see you girls later.” Jeremy said as he rushed on to the next floor.
“God he’s so hot!” Alana said in a hushed voice as she followed Jeremy with her gaze until he disappeared in the door.
“Oh Alana, are you still in love with him?” I asked. She’s liked Jeremy for a month now, which was a record for her, since she’s had many crushes on guys not one of them lasting for more than two weeks.
“I’m NOT in love with him!” she whispered at me angrily, blushing, looking around us to see if anyone was listening. “I’m just infatuated with him ... immensely,” she said her eyes gleaming. I just sighed at her and gave her a supporting smile. “Do you want me to talk to him?” I asked her, as we entered our class and took our usual seats, in the back. Our class looked especially empty today, since it was the last school day. The majority didn’t bother to come in today since it would have been pointless. All the teachers would only be going over what we had to study for the final exam, and supporting us with kind words ... well some of them.
“No! He’ll only laugh! I won't be able to live with the humiliation.” She whispered.
“You know Jeremy wouldn’t do that, he’s really nice. Even if he did, I’d beat him up if he ever laughed at you!” I said seriously.
“Alex, look at me,” she said looking down at herself in disgust. “I’m fat!” I gave Alana a slap on her hand, she pretended to be hurt.
“You’re not fat! You’re curvy. There’s nothing wrong with being curvy,” I told her encouragingly.
“You mean fat! Easy for you to say that, look at you and your size eight figure,” she said jealously.
“You mean ten,” I giggled.
“At least you’re not a fourteen,”
“Alana, you’re not fat, you’re curvy. Plus you carry it well you height.” Alana considered this for a moment and looked satisfied.
“I suppose. But don’t say anything to him!” she warned.
“... Girls are you listening?” said Mrs. Bean our ancient math teacher. Both Alana and I got a fright from her shrill way of speaking when she noticed someone not listening to her. We both nodded.
After forty minutes of listening to Mrs. Bean talk about the same thing she has for the last two weeks I was really glad to leave that class. I mean I love math, but I couldn’t listen about same problems over and over.
“Good luck in you final exam everyone, I’m sure you all will do great!” said Mrs. Bean as we walked past her, nodding our thanks.
“I think I’m going to miss her,” said Alana when we weren’t in Mrs. Bean’s earshot.
“Me too,” I said nostalgically, thinking back to the last few years of her teaching us. “Hi Alex!” I heard from behind me. I turned o see who was greeting me. “Oh hi Naomi,” I greeted her back. “Om my god, I can’t believe it’s our last day in school, forever!” she said.
“Yeah I know, time really flies doesn’t?” I said to both Alana and Naomi. They both nodded.
“How are you feeling about the final exams?” she asked looking worried.
“Nervous.” I said genuinely. Naomi Parks wasn’t a friend, she was more of an acquaintance, but I felt very sorry for her. She didn’t have many friends. To think about it, she had no friends in school, so I did my best to talk to her, but she was just so strange, I felt a bit uneasy in her presence. Alana didn’t like her at all. She thought of her as weird one, and kept her distance, she made sure to let poor Naomi know she didn’t want to talk to her.
“Well I guess I’ll see you later.” She said feeling awkward because Alana and I didn’t have much to say to her.
“Yeah, see you at lunch or something.” I waved to her, seeing hurt in her eyes because she knew I was lying.
“Why do you talk to her?” Alana asked me.
“I guess I feel sorry for her. She must be very lonely. I mean she hasn’t made friends with anyone, plus it’s not like I talk to her nonstop. I never know what to say to her,” I said hurt building up inside me for Naomi.
“Well she is kind of strange. She freaks me out,”
“Alana stop that! You’re not being very nice. How would you feel if you were her?”
“I don’t know I’m glad I’m not her though!” she said looking stupid. Alana is very nice, but she’s very blunt. She never thinks before she speaks.
“I think I will sit with her for lunch. I always say it, but I never do it,”
“Why bother? It’s not like she has much to say anyway,”
“Maybe not, but at least then I’ll feel like I did a good deed,” I said making up my mind and feeling satisfied.
“I will, just let me get the last level and it’s all yours. You can have it for the summer, but then again, I might not see you if I do,” I smirked.
