Chapter 1

With the New Day Comes New Findings

'He laughed. I smiled and laughed along. "Hey Light?" I asked him. "Yes, Arisu?" He looked at me, and I just looked at the ground. "I-i always wanted to tell you this, but I was always too scared too...But I-i lik-" I woke up to the alarm clock screaming at me. I groaned and hit the snooze button. Then fell back to sleep, but I couldn't re-dream the dream I was having before.

"Honey! Wake up! You're gonna be late for school!" My mother yelled at me from downstairs. I sighed and chose to get up. I put on my school uniform and brushed my long black hair before brushing my teeth and running downstairs.

"Good-morning sunshine!" My mother greeted me sarcastically. I rolled my eyes and looked at the clock. 'OH. MY. GOD! I'm late!' I thought to myself in panic. Then I took one pancake from the plate on the table and shoved the whole thing in my mouth and chewed quickly.

"Slow down! You're gonna choke!" My mother scowled. I swallowed forcefully then took my tote from the chair and ran out the door in one swift motion. "Bye mom!" I yelled running down the steps to Light.

"Well somebody's late." He said teasingly. I stuck my tongue out at him.

"Sorry, I over-slept." I said and began to walk to school, with Light walking next to me.

"What, were you dreaming of me?" Light asked. I started to panic, 'OH NO! HE KNOWS!' I thought.

"NO! I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER WHAT THE DREAM WAS ABOUT! AND I DON'T EVEN LIKE YOU THAT WAY!" I blurted it all out without thinking.

"Whoa, whoa! Calm down. No need to get defensive. I was just kidding." He laughed a little. I laughed awkwardly and punched his arm awkwardly.

"Pshh....I knew that!" I said while rolling my eyes. 'Great! I'm such an idiot! I told him I didn't like him that way! Way to tell him how I feel!' I thought to myself regretfully.

"Okay class, now take out your homework from last night."

I groaned a little and started shuffling through my tote. I gave up after a while.
'I guess, it's just not my day today...' I thought then shrugged and laid my head in my arms on my desk. I began hearing these voices in my mind. I closed my eyes tightly, trying to shake them off. I heard a loud snap on my desk and quickly shot up in my seat.

"Ms.Amaya, first being late, then not turning in homework, and now sleeping during class... You could be looking at a zero for the day...." The teacher scowled at me. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something pass by the window in the hallway.

"May I go to the restroom?" I asked politely. The teacher looked at me for a while as if trying to figure out if he should let me or not. He nodded his head and just went back to teaching. I scrambled for the door and raced into the hallway.

I felt a presence behind me and swiftly turned, but no-one was there. 'What could be going on?' I thought before turning back around and finding a little black notebook on the ground. I picked it up and looked at it. My hand slid across the writing on the cover. I couldn't figure out what it said. It wasn't a language I knew. I looked around the hall one last time before putting the notebook into my tote and heading back to class.
