Supernatural Rainforest
This is a remake, sort of, of the "Swiss Family Robinson" with a twist.
This is my first Quibblo story, so please give me some feedback--I may have made grammatical mistakes and stuff...sorry! I'm pretty sure that the beginning tells you about the character, but if you have any questions, post in the comments and I'll try to get back to you!
Hope you like it!
Chapter 1
(unfinished, I will continue it later on when I have more time)
Hey. So, in case you were wondering, my family is odd. Besides the fact that we are weird--just weird, like the weird people you might tease at school--we are also different from everybody. Me, my sister, and my 4 brothers are homeschooled--in the Amazon Rainforest. We have to do this because we couldn't make ends meet back in Maryland, so we moved to Florida for a couple weeks (mind you, we were living in a vacationer's basement without him knowing--until he found us, which made us beat the heck out of there) and then, after the move to Florida, we stole a boat and sailed randomly in one direction (obviously south) and as we went, we befriended fish, sharks, birds, and especially whales and dolphins. Dustin, surprisingly, was the best with the animals that we encountered--even the ferocious ones! When we passed dangerous sharks, Dustin just put his hand out to them, saying,
"Raah-wah-kuhk!"
to which the sharks replied,
"Wah-kuhk-aragara!"
Dustin turned to Dad, who was steering, and asked,
"The sharks are going south, and apparently we are too. Could we follow them and see if we find somewhere to live?"
Normal people would be baffled as to how to understand that an innocent 8-year-old could converse with animals, but our family has, superpowers, I guess. But they are mediocre powers--Dustin can talk with animals and stuff like that. Darren, his twin brother, can control emotions and is persuasive and way too clever (believe me; I've had experience--NOT fun). Charlie, my 25-year-old brother, has the power to shape-shift, put up walls, and make force-fields. Timothy, who is 21, is able to work with the earth--like dirt, grass, rocks and stones, and plants. Lilly is 18 and is capable of controlling water/ice, and wind. I, 15-year-old Jaxith Ant (please, call me Jax, and do not make fun of the 'Ant') am able to create lightning, energy, and fire. My Mom can control things with her eyes--this power is very strong at her age. My Dad, on the other hand, can control time.
So when Dustin said we were to follow sharks, all Dad did was nod, and asked my mom,
"How's the weather down south?"
Mom, by the way, is also able to do weather stuff, like create storms, sunny days, rainy days, clouds, you get the point.
She pulled a string of long dark brown hair out of her eyes and tucked it behind her ear. Her bright brown eyes turned misty as she looked deep into her power source--the clouds--and contemplated them for a minute. Then she looked back at us, checked the makeshift, wooden steering wheel Dad was steering, and said,
"It will be around 87 degrees in the Amazon, drizzling, and humidity chance is 98%. All of this is undetermined, but is probable."
"Oh, come off it, Elena. We all know that you control what will happen. There's no 'undetermined' or 'might be probable'."
Dad waved his hand at her.
"Well, I don't like to boast, Matthew."
Mom scolded at him and stiffly walked over to the other side of the boat, which was about 5 feet away.
Dad shrugged, and continued to maneuver the small boat around rocks and whatnot. Charlie went over to Dad, about to take over the wheel, but Dad motioned that he was fine. Bored, Charlie started to morph his hand into a rat paw, an elephant ear, and various parts of animals of various types of animals. Finally, after many gruesome hours of seeing a human hand change into President Obama's head and a baboon's butt consecutively, Lilly threw up her hands in surrender pose.
"I give up! When are we getting there? And what is there, exactly? You know, I have a high school diploma to finish here!"she yelled.
All of us, used to Lilly and her tirades, glanced at her and turned the other way--that is, everyone but Dad. Since the sea had become so much trickier, what with the newfound boulders, animals, and a couple of trading boats, Dad was forced to look only at the foamy waves slapping the small boat's sides, and he couldn't give her his Dad look.
"Lil, you know you won't be able to finish that diploma, as much as I know you want to."
He said sarcastically.
"But we will get there, and there is--according to your mom and brother--the Amazon Rainforest, just another 10 miles away. By the way, Charlie, I can hear your hand, it is disgusting, and I do not want our family's puke in the sea to get eaten by a perfectly healthy dolphin."
So Lilly stopped whining, and Charlie stopped grossing us out, and finally we came to the eastern shore of Brazil, parked right next to the rainforest. My family clambered out of the boat, dropped onto the sand, and stared at the Amazon.
Numerous trees lined the skyline, towering above us, and sheltering us from the rays of the sun. The air was almost clogged, as if the mist rolling off the trees had built up in the air, capturing the atoms of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. An extremely large tributary flowed out into the sea a little ways away from us. Probably the Amazon River. The sand was warm beneath my toes, and I wanted to roll in it, the breathe in its warm particles, go to sleep, and be wrapped in a cocoon of sand, warm and cozy, going to bed.
"All right, everyone, you ready?"
Dad called out.
"Then let's go."
"Raah-wah-kuhk!"
to which the sharks replied,
"Wah-kuhk-aragara!"
