My Love On the Weekends
Chapter 1
Glad I Stopped in Life Is Good...
I woke up to the smell of salt water filling my nostrils, sun shining trough my eyelids, and the sound of waves crashing on the shore. I slowly opened my eyes, and saw the porch looking directly out to the horizon. The sun was right above the water, causing the waves to shine. I smiled. A typical morning in my beach house.
I sat up straight and yawned, feeling in a really good mood. I was happy - I always am when I'm here. I pulled my light blonde hair into a bun, and climbed out of bed. I decided to change into jean short shorts and a faded yellow spaghetti strap tank top. I opened the sliding glass doors leading to the porch in my room, you know, the one looking out into the horizon. I stepped out and felt the warm breeze on my face. I stared out on the ocean - I saw my two nine year old brothers playing on the far side of the beach. I laughed at them. They were throwing sand at each other.
I decided to go downstairs for breakfast. When I walked into the hallway, I smelled bacon, eggs and toast. That just made me run faster down the stairs.
"Hey Mom, Hey Dad."
"Hey, sweetie, could you tell your brothers to come in for breakfast?"
"Yeah!" I ran out the back door, and with the first leap, i was already on sand. "MASON! LUCA!" I yelled at the top of my voice. They both turned towards me. "BREAKFAST!" They raced down the beach, and, of course, Luca totally crushed Mason. Luca was like, ten yards ahead.
"Ha! You're never gonna beat me." Luca said.
"I will one day, Luca!"
I laughed again. "Come on, guys, breakfast. It's bacon, eggs, and toast today!"
Mason and Luca's eyes widened. "Yes!" They yelled, charging towards the door.
Being thirteen and everything, i should think they are stupid brats, but really i love them a lot. They aren't the mean little brothers that rip up your favorite shirt, no, they are the little brothers that you can depend on with your biggest secret.
When we all sat down for breakfast, my mother said, "Listen, children, you know that you can't stay up late. It isn't summer vacation yet, you still have school for five more weeks. We are only out here on the weekends for now. But once it's summer vacation, we will be spending most of our summer here.
"YES!" we all yelled. I loved it out here more than anything. It was my getaway.
I would come here and sit on the beach for hours on end.
"Mom, I'm gonna go into town, okay?" I said, after I devoured my breakfast.
"Okay, sweetie, but be careful." She said.
The town was only one mile away, but i always walked down the beach. That only took about ten minutes. It was much easier.
Once i was in town, I stopped in Life is Good to look for a new beach bag. Nothing seemed good, and just as i was going to look on the other side of the store, i saw someone.
A boy. A boy with tan skin, brown hair, which flowed almost as perfectly as the ocean, and was just a little taller than me. I couldn't take my eyes off of him.
I was more of the shy type, so I knew i was just going to watch him go down the street, than forget about him. But this time, without even thinking about it, i walked towards the window, then out the door. I continued on towards him, my mind racing. I finally had a plan.
Just as i got close to him, I turned my head around. there were some people behind me, so i wouldn't look like a complete fool when i did this. So i yelled, "Bye!" Then bumped right into him. Perfect.
I turned around again, acting surprised. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" I said, holding my hands up.
"No, it's okay." He said, smiling back at me. He flipped his hair. All I could think then, was- OH. MY. GOODNESS.
I looked at him for a minute, then giggled a little. "I'm Haley. Thirteen. " I said.
"Tyler. Also thirteen."
"Do you live out here?" I asked, trying to hide my redness.
"Yeah, I do. Actually, I live just ten minutes away. You?"
"Nah, I have a beach house out here. The big white one on Quarter Road, third house down."
He raised his eyebrows. "You stay there? I've always wondered who lives in that house! It's an amazing house." He said.
Then, a biker was charging toward us. We dove out of the way, and sat on the nearest bench.
I was really happy.
TYLER'S POV:
I went into town after my dad and i finished cleaning out the pool. I was in the mood for a donut at Dunkin Donuts - but that was too far away. So I decided just to walk through town, maybe stop in a few places to see if my friends were there.
As I walked past the the bakery, I heard someone yell really loud, "Bye!" I was just about to turn around when that person bumped into me. Really hard.
I almost fell.
Well, thank goodness i didn't because I bumped into a beautiful girl. I marveled at her beauty. She was a little bit shorter than me and she had stunning hazel eyes, a beautiful smile, and gorgeous blonde hair. I tried not stare.
"I'm Haley. Thirteen." She said, flashing me one of her beautiful grins.
Thank goodness I was also thirteen, so that we were the same age. We talked a little bit, and we sat down on a bench. We kept talking. I learned she was the one who lived in that beautiful house- the one we almost bought. She really lives in NYC, but comes down here every weekend. I liked her. She was confident, smiley, and knew how to hold up a conversation. I couldn't help but stare.
"So you really are the top in your school?" I asked her, flipping my hair. I saw her smirk a little.
"Yeah. I've been like that since, like kindergarten."
I laughed. Then I checked my watch. WOW! it's been a whole hour that we've been talking. Time flew by. She was really cool.
Then I remembered, I had to be home soon.
"Hey, Haley, I got to go. Sorry. it's just my dad, wants to eat lunch with me and everything. I'll see you around, okay?"
She smiled and nodded. As she started to walk away, I couldn't help myself.
"Um, Haley?"
She turned around and walked back over. "Yeah?"
"Are you busy after lunch?"
"No, I'm not. Why?"
"Maybe I could meet you at the bakery...?" I said, butterflies flying around in my stomach.
"Yeah. I'd like that." She said, grinning.
thank GOODNESS. We swapped numbers, and i said i would text her at twelve thirty, so we could plan when.
She threw me one last, winning smile, and ran off.
