Chapter 22
I woke up Monday morning not feeling the best. My cheeks were really hot and I had a headache. I probably had a fever or something.
"Ella, I feel sick. I'm not going to school today." She came over to me and felt my forehead.
"You are really warm, just stay in bed or on the couch." She walked away and I grabbed my phone from the table to tell Travis I wasn't going to be there.
"I'm not going to school today."
"You okay?"
"I'm sick."
"Aw, I was on my way, so I'll just stop by to say hi before I go to school."
"Okay, see you then."
I felt dizzy when I stood up, so I walked as slow as I could down stairs to the family room. I brought as many blankets as I could find with me because I was freezing. As soon as I got settled on the couch Travis knocked on the door.
"Ugh, it's open, just come in!" It hurt to scream.
Travis came into where I was and knelt down in front of me.
"You don't look like you feel good." he brushed my hair out of my face and smiled. "Do you want me to get you anything?"
"If you can find a blanket, that would be nice." He got up to look for one and came back a minute later.
"I couldn't find one." He started taking his jacket off and gave it to me. "Have this for today"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes I'm sure. Now just take it." I did as he said and put it around me. "Is that better?" I nodded and smiled at him. "I'll bring you your math homework after class." I didn't feel like speaking, so I nodded again. "Hope you feel better."
He waved and walked out the door. I searched for the remote and turned on the TV. There wasn't much on so I kept flipping channels until something looked intriguing.
After an hour of searching for something to watch, I eventually fell asleep.
"Ouch!" I could feel someone shaking me slightly. "That hurt."
"Travis?" He was holding his hand over his eye. "Oh my gosh, did I punch you?"
"Yes, actually." At least he was laughing.
"I'm sorry about that. How was your day?"
"It was okay." His fingers twirled me hair. "A little sad, but I was fine."
"How are your sisters taking it?" Poor Kelly and Hannah.
"Not so good." I could tell he was uncomfortable, so I stopped talking about it. "Here's the stuff you missed."
He gave me a few sheets of paper. One was a note from my teacher. I'll read that later. "Thanks!"
"No problem. Can I sit with you?"
"Sure." I moved so he could sit where I was. But he pulled me back over to him.
"So what are we watching?" I forgot that I had left the T.V. on.
I shrugged not knowing what was on. So he just did what I had done earlier and looked through every channel. He put on some show that I had never heard of.
Not long after, I started to feel nauseous. I tried to close my eyes and get rid of the feeling. But that clearly didn't work.
I covered my mouth and ran to the bathroom. Luckily, I made it in time. Travis had got up to see if I was okay.
I could feel him hold my hair and rub my back.
"When was the last time you ate?" Saturday night.
"This morning." He wasn't convinced. "Fine. Saturday night at dinner." I flushed the toilet and brushed my teeth. "I wasn't hungry that much yesterday." That was a total lie. I was so hungry yesterday.
"When you're feeling better, eat something." We went back to the couch and continued to sit until Travis had to leave.
Travis left at seven and I went upstairs to sleep. But before I went to bed, I picked up the letter from earlier and read it.
