Checkmates and Endings

I was just sitting on the windowsill, watching the raindrops patter, trying to get into the house. But it couldn't. As the water slid down the window, I followed it with my finger and watched as the drops were racing against each other, trying to be first to the bottom, trying to beat the others. That's my life. Everybody, trying to be the best, and the most feared. Violence. Everywhere I look. Right now, there is a couple on the road below my bedroom window, and the man is beating the woman for some reason. I really can't be bothered to think that much.
All of a sudden, somebody rang the front doorbell. I bet it was Dad. I bet he had forgotten his keys. Again.
"Mrs Dalton, I'm sorry... dead...bomb". That was all I could make out, but I could tell that it was something bad.
I should probably eavesdrop.
Should I?
That would be bad of me though.
Maybe Grandad had died?
Maybe Grandma had died?
Then I heard my Mum scream
"MUM," I yelled at the top of voice, as I pounded down the stairs, "WHAT'S THE MATTER?"
"I'm sorry Mia. There's been a bomb, a terrorist bomb, set up by The Checkmates It was at Genovia Shopping Centre. Mia, you're Dad's dead," my Mum spoke, while choking on her tears.

For me, the world had just ended. And I never said goodbye.
