He was fighting for his life against the non-benders. He should have beaten them easily, but their numbers were great, there was only one of him. He looked back at the others. He wanted them to go. "Nagi, no. We wont leave without you." Denana took his hand. "We refuse, we cant lose you like we lost the others." "But Denana," He squeezed her hand reasuringly. They have the key with them. Its whats needed to find the fifth, the last. "We are the last, Nagi." Wystora came up behind him, putting a wrinkled hand on his shoulder.
He looked up at her smiling face. Even though she had aged greatly, the woman always seemed so beautifiul and full of life. "Theres nothing we can do but hide the key, until the right time comes." Both nodded, and watched as Benji made a wall of fire between them and the non-benders. "I wish it hadnt been this way." "At least we're safe." Nagi looked at the wall of fire and the people behind it. He tiled his hat down and shook his head. This wasnt over. "Nagi?" /He had to sacrafice himself. It was the only way.
"Nagi, i know what you're thinking." He looked up at the man who used to be his enemy. They always knew each other so well, it was no surprise that he knew. "Benji, what?" "He wants to stay, to sacrifice himself." "Nagi!" Both women looked at him, with very different expressions. Denana looked shocked, while Wystora was just staring at him in dismay and that knowing look. "You'll be killed." "He knows that. Thats why hes sacrificing himself. I didnt know controling the element of air made you an airhead as well."
"Why, you son of a-" Denana made the wind whirl around her, Benji making fire daggers. They were about to attack each other, when Wystora encased both in earth. "Do not fight, children. She got them out and they all ran. Nagi looked back. They were at the cave entrance. If he couldnt sacrafice himself, then he could go down fighting. He skidded to a stop, and few thick layers of ice. He could barely hear his comrads yells through it as he turned, ready to fight until his death. "By yourself, mute devil?" One of them sneered at him as he formed an ice spear. "Not speaking? As usual. Too scared to, i suspect." They yelled their horrid battle cries as they attacked him.
He dodged, shanked, lunged and sliced, but he knew it wouldnt be enough. He knew he would die right then an there. He felt suddenly, a sharp pain in his shoulder, then another, in his side. He fell. They all growled at him.Yelling insults at the now dying bender. Then a flash of light, fire, they had made it through. All around im were dead, except one. He held a knife above Nagi's heart. "Time to finish the job." His hands were shaky, though, and he missed, getting his stomach.
A wave of fire was thrown at the man, he dodged it and ran. "Going to get recruites." Nagi coughed up blood. "Nagi!" Both women went to his side and lited him up. "Come on, we can save him." Denana was frantic. "You're ok, right Nagi? Come on, get up. You're fine." Benji put a hand on each of their shoulders. "Its time to go, they'll be here soon. I cant lose you two as well." "We cant go without Nagi!" Denana started crying. "Denana, he's right." "No!" She lashed out at Benji. " no leaving hi- Nagi took her and and wiped her tears.
Then in a hoarse, low voice, he said his first and last words in the past twenty years. "Go." She looked stunned as the others dragged her away. He closed his eyes, listening to their feet on the earth, something he had learned from Wystora. They'll be safe or now.
