Chapter 1
.The gun shot.
Layla, her mother, her father, and her older sister Tanya were having a nice quiet evening. Her father, and Tanya watched football while her mother read another romance novel.
[NOTE: Layla's mother LOVED romance novels.]
While Layla played with her stuffed bunny, whom Layla called 'Boo'.
But little did Layla know, her whole life was about to change...
-----------------------
There was a fierce banging at their front door. Layla's father's ears perked up. "Layla..." her mother stared at her worriedly "go hide." the banging got louder, followed by loud grunting, "NOW! You too, Tanya!" her mother hugged the girls. Little did Layla know, that was the last time she would ever see her parents again.
As her mother ordered, Layla grabbed Boo and ran upstairs, closely followed by her 12 year old sister.
---------------------
They heard a man's voice, it was deep and angry.
"Hello." the man greeted her parents calmly.
"Do you have kids?" the man asked, still calm.
"N-no. No we don't have k-kids." their mother said nervously,
"y-you can't enter a house without permission! That's breaking and entering!!" Her father said sharply.
The man laughed, "I CAN enter... Because I don't think you want me to use THIS." The man pulled out something that made Layla's parents gasp.
"A GUN!?!" her mother sobbed "PLEASE don't hurt us!!!"
Tanya gasped, tears rolling down her cheek "...Mom... Dad.."
Tanya hugged Layla "Layla, I'm going to go see mom and dad. If I don't come back.... You'll be okay. I love you, Layla."
"Love you to, Tanya." Layla whispered.
Then Tanya left.
Layla hugged Boo, "it'll be okay, Boo."
Layla listened to her family.
"What's this?!" the man yelled "A CHILD?!"
The man screamed. "You LIARS! YOU SAID YOU HAD NO CHILDREN!"
"D-d-don't hurt her---" Layla's mother said through tears.
Then, Tanya screamed.
Layla gasped, "oh no, Boo!" she whispered to her bunny.
Then Layla crawled over to the balcony, which was where you can view the bottom floor, where her family was.
Then she saw the man. He had greasy black hair, with a grey sweater, dark jeans, and a gun!
Then, the man did something that would scar Layla for life.
He shot her family.
First her father,
then her mother,
and then Tanya!
Layla fought back tears. She watched them bleed to death, their faces slowly losing colour. And the man was laughing. LAUGHING.
Luckily, Layla knew what to do. She was taught it at a class she went to called "Emergency 101". One sentence stuck in her head,
If you're ever in an emergency, and you need to get help FAST, dial 9-1-1, and tell them what's wrong
Layla crawled as fast as she could to her parent's bedroom, where they kept a spare phone. She grabbed it, dove into their big closet, hid, AND THEN dialed 9-1-1.
"Hello, what's your emergency?"
"MY MOMMY AND MY DADDY AND MY SISTER TANYA ARE SHOT A-A-AND I'M SCARED!!! AND---"
"Sweetie, what's your name?
"L-Layla."
"And how old are you?"
"Four..."
"Now, explain the problem. Slowly."
"A weird man came into our house---"
"What did the 'weird man' look like?"
"He has greasy black hair, a grey sweater and dark jeans... AND A GUN!"
"Okay..."
"So the weird man came into our house and talked to my parents, hen my sister Tanya wanted to check on them---"
"Where were you and your sister?"
"Mommy told us to hide, so we hid in my bedroom... In a closet."
"Ah."
"And then, the man saw Tanya, AND HE SHOT THEM!!!"
"Did you see it, hun?"
"Uh-huh." Layla began to sob "come q-quick!! Please! I'm scared!!"
"Okay, stay wherever you are, and we'll be there soon."
"Oh... O-o-okay."
-----------------------------------
The police caught the man, who's name was Brent Barleen. But Layla got some horrible news from the ambulance;
"I'm sorry Layla... But we can't revive them. They're dead."
The paramedic began to cry.
Layla cried with the paramedic.
The paramedic handed her a watch, a necklace, and a bracelet.
"The watch is your father's, the bracelet is your sister's, and the necklace is your mother's" the paramedic slid them on to Layla's neck and wrist "keep them. Treasure them."
A man in a suit walked up to her, "hello. I'm Mr. John Ferning. I am the boss of Sunshine acres orphanage. Grab your belongings and come with me."
"N-NO!" Layla sobbed "I'M NEVER GONNA GO!!!!! EVER!"
However, Mr. Ferning wouldn't hear it. He grabbed Layla's wrist and began dragging her.
"NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOO!!!!!"
"Wait!" a man pulled them apart. "I'll take her." he turned to Layla, "I spoke with you on the phone."
Layla gasped "yes! I don't wanna go to an orphanage!"
The man smiled, "I'll sign some papers. My name is Drew."
Layla may have lost everything, but atleast, thanks to Drew, she wasn't alone.
