Chapter 26
(Travis POV)
Chapter 1
Chapter 26
She rolled over closer to me and put her arm on my chest. After a few minutes of no talking, I asked her if she wanted to go to bed.
But she was already asleep. I smiled a little and pulled the covers over her. I tried getting up slowly so I wouldn't wake her up. She twitched the slightest bit as I moved.
I shut the light off and went down to the basement. Everyone was sleeping. I decided to sleep on the couch tonight since I had no where else to sleep.
It didn't take long for me to fall asleep.
When I woke up, it was almost eight. I got up and went to check on Scarlette. She was exactly as I left her last night. I went back down to the kitchen to find breakfast on the table already.
"Good morning Travis." I sat down in my usual spot next to my dad. "Is Scarlette still asleep?"
"Yeah. What time do we have to leave?"
"We're leaving at ten." I put some food on my plate and started eating.
I finshed breakfast and left to wake Scarlette up.
"Hey Scarlette it's time to wake up." She didn't move. "Come one, wake up. It's nine o'clock." I put my hand on her shoulder and she just moved away and curled up in the blankets. "Fine, you give me no choice."
I started pulling the sheets off my bed and picked her up, and put her over my shoulder.
"Alright, alright! I'm up!" I put her down and laughed. "Meanie." She looked cute when she got annoyed. She took her dress and shoes out of her bag and went to the bathroom to change. I got my suit out of my closet and started getting dressed.
I looked around for my tie. When I found it, I wasn't sure what to do with it, so I just stood there.
"Are you dressed yet?"
"You can come out." She hesitated before coming in. I felt bad about walking in on her last night. "Can you tie this?"
She looked at me funny. "You're seventeen years old, and you can't tie a tie?" She laughed and took the tie from me and started tying it. I tried watching what she was doing so I could learn. But she went to fast.
"How do you know how to do that?"
"Clark taught me. I don't know why, but he did." It was getting close to ten so we went down stairs.
"Good morning!" Scarlette greeted everyone when she walked into the hallway.
"Woah, you look so pretty!" Hannah came running over to Scarlette. "I love your dress, and your hair."
I didn't really look at her yet. She did look really pretty. From behind, I noticed that her spine was visible. It looked really bad, but I didn't want to say anything.
"Thank you, and you look very pretty too."
"Travis, you can drive with Scarlette in your car. I'll drive with your mom and sisters." I walked Scarlette out to my car and helped her in. I also noticed that her legs were really skinny and small. It seemed that they would break at the softest touch.
The drive over was quiet and relatively short. I parked in the church's parking lot and opened Scarlette's door and helped her out.
"The service starts at eleven. We're here early to make sure everything is set."
Inside, everything was decorated as my mom wanted it. The flowers were the right kind and they were all in place. People started to come in.
I brought Scarlette with me to talk to friends and family members that came in. She stood quietly behind me.
"Hey Chris, and Melanie." My cousin Chris and his girlfriend Melanie came over to me. I didn't really like Melanie. She always says the wrong things at the wrong times.
"Hi Travis." Her eyes traveled behind me. I guess she noticed Scarlette, who wasn't paying attention to anything that was going on. "Oh, is that your new girlfriend?"
"Yeah, her names Scarlette."
"She's a cutter I see." I didn't like how she worded that comment. "And does she eat? I mean she looks so thin, it's disgusting." I didn't say anything in return. Chris waved bye and began to walk. I could just hear Melanie's comment to Chris as she walked away. "I guarantee you Scarlette is the next one to die."
It was about to start and I walked Scarlette back to our seat in the front. I was still thinking of what Melanie had just said. I'm guessing Scarlette didn't hear anything becuase she was silent the whole time.
About halfway through, I felt as if I was going to cry. I sniffled hoping that would help. Scarlette looked at me. I didn't want her to see me cry.
When the ceremony ended, we walked back to my car. I sat down in the driver's seat of my car and started the car. I moved behind my parents car and stopped. The funeral director came around to make sure my headlights were on. I turned them on and started to drive.
Scarlette tried to say something, but I was too upset to listen.
"It's ok to cry you know." I kept my eyes on the road. "What's on your mind?"
"My cousin's girlfriend was talking to me. She noticed your cuts, and said you'd be the next person to die." By the look on her face I could tell she was upset.
"Well... I won't be. I'm capable of things." I didn't believe her. And I don't think she believed herself either.
