En Pointe Part 10
I think this chapter is shorter and kind of a filler, but more will happen soon!
Chapter 1
Hospital Visits
It was Wednesday when Natalia walked home from the bus. She'd finally got the the hang of the crutches. "Mom?"
"Kitchen," she heard her call. Natalia ditched her bag by the front door, before heading in. "We're going to visit Natasha, in about twenty minutes, okay?" Natalia nodded happy to see her twin sister. "So how was school today?"
"Fine," she answered. School was boring the only class she really liked was photography and she had a feeling was because she had it with Reese.
"So your making friends, right?"
"Yes," Natalia said, irritated. They talked a little while longer before the two got into the car and drove to the hospital. They got out and she followed her mom. "Where are we going? This isn't the entrance for visitors," her mom gripped the wheel. "No!" she said.
"Honey, we want a specialist to take to take a look at your knee," Natalia sighed and looked down at it before sighing and getting out of the car.
"Well, the MRI scans confirm what your doctor said. You appear to have a partially torn PCL. There really is nothing else we can do," he said. Natalia nodded and looked at her mom sitting in the seat in the corner, she'd agreed to be a silent observer.
"Will I be able to dance?" she asked.
"We'll have to wait to see, but there is no reason why you shouldn't once your knee is fully healed," he said. "Does this hurt?" he asked touching her kneecap. She bit her lip but shook her head. "Natalia, I need you to tell me if it actually hurts. I know dancers are trained to work through their pain..."
"Fine, it hurts a little but I can work through it,"
"I think you should use the crutches for a couple more days, but keep the bandage on," he looked down and pulled out the scan tacking it up on the light. "See this tear? I think you injured it worse than we first thought,"
"Will she need surgery?" her mom asked, breaking the silent partner agreement.
"Not as long as she lets it rest and stays off it, she'll have a full recovery. We'll see later on if she is going to need a physical therapy," he said.
"What about by this summer? In June there's an intensive 2 and a half month dance program. It's a great oppurtunity especially if I'm not at the NEDC,"
"Most likely, but right now let's focus on your recovery," he said with a smile. She rolled her eyes. Did no one understand what it's like? What's it's like to give up something like ballet? You can't just quit cold turkey, your muscles still remember the motions, your brain is still programmed. She can't hear a song without breaking it down into beats or if she really likes it letting a routine replay over and over in her mind.
An hour later she was sitting next to Natasha in a chair. Her blonde hair fell in a plait resting against her shoulder and her skin was ghostly white. The good news was that she was breathing on her own, the bad news was that she still hadn't woken up yet.
"I saw the doctor today, he said I should make a full recovery." she told her sister, the one person she actually wanted to talk to. "I wish you could talk to me right now, you know to tell me how stupid I am. I didn't have to transfer, but it's weird, I'm not there anymore and I still...Well ballet still is the first thing on my mind. I can't wait to dance again,"
Natalia couldn't believe this was her sister, she kept on chattering about umimportant things. "I met a guy, I think you would like him. His name is Reese, he's really good at photography he seems really familar but..." she let her voice trail off and let go of her sisters hand.
She sat there thinking. Thinking about Reese, about her friends, about her parents. It was seeming like they forgot about Natasha, but she knew it was to keep it from hurting her. "I haven't seen Nick in a while, I'm sure that's a good thing..." she didn't finish her thought, it felt stupid to be talking to her sister when she wouldn't respond.
"Natalia? Your dad's here," it was her mom. She smiled and got up. Her mom seemed paler than usual looking at Natasha, with glassy eyes. "The nurse said she was doing fine, she should be waking up soon..." her mom looked hopeful as she looked at her daughter in the bed.
"I'm hungry....I think I'm going to go to the cafeteria," she said to her mother whose attention was focused on her other daughter.
Natalia took the elevator down to the cafeteria and looked at the food. Her stomach growled so she dug the cast out of her pocket and bought a container of apple juice and some tator tots. She sat down at an empty table and began eating. "Need some company?" she heard a voice ask and saw Reese who sat down across from her. "So what you here for?"
"Doctor's appointment, my parents are talking with the doctor," for some reason the lying came easy to Natalia. "Why are you here for?"
"My mom works here..." Reese started. Then she flashbacked, Listen you need to let the doctors do there job. They'll take good care of her. I know because one of them is my mom. She's fantastic and will take good care of her, The annoying boy wasn't Reese, was it? "One of my friends in my Video Productions class dropped me off here. We were doing a music video and we just got down with some of the filming," for the first time she noticed the video camera set down on the table.
They talked for a while until she saw her mom walk in. She bid him goodbye and left with her parents.
