If some one is calling you rude and mean names, do they have any reason/right to get upset at you when you call them a mean name?

No, they don't.
Sometimes people just don't expect you to have a come back.
They're more likely upset that you challenged them back, rather than that you call them.

However, I don't see the point of making a big deal about it. Some people thrive on the drama over pointless and stupid things that don't matter.

Best to take the high road, and not involve yourself in other people's high school drama.
