Chapter 27

Clearly there was something Travis wasn't telling me. But I didn't want to make him anymore upset or uncomfortable by asking. So I stayed silent and held onto his hand.
"We're here." I hadn't even noticed that the car was stopped until he said something.
Travis came over and opened my door for me. I smiled at him so he knew everything was okay.
We walked down to where Lauren would be buried. Travis' parents were already down there. As soon as everyone got there, they started.
The moment they started lowering Lauren into the ground, I heard people start to cry. I looked to see if it was Travis' mom but it wasn't. It was Travis.
I hugged him tighter and leaned on his shoulder.
The burial finished and we walked back to the car.
"Are you okay?" Travis seemed unfocused while we were walking.
"Yeah." He slowly sat down into the seat of his car. "I'll take you back to my house. Unless you want to go home."
"No it's fine, I'll go to your house. My stuff is still there anyway." He nodded a little and drove off.
Normally when we're driving, it will be silent. But today's silence wasn't. It was sad and uncomfortable. Travis would stare at the road and block everything else out.
When he got to his house, he walked through the door without saying anything to anyone. I followed him up to his room.
"Travis this isn't like you. Are you sure something isn't bothering you?" Honestly, I didn't think it was Lauren who was making him sad.
His eyes locked with mine. He started to say something but then he stopped.
"What is it?"
"Before the funeral started, when I was talking to people, my cousin and his girlfriend came over to me. You weren't paying attention when she said this, but she took one look at you, and saw your arms." I looked at them myself. "And when she walked away, she said you'd be the next one to die."
"She said that?"
"Scarlette, since then I have been thinking about it. What if that was you today? I kept imagining you in there. I don't want to believe that what she said could be true."
He had started to cry again. So I went over to him and wiped a tear off his eye.
"It won't happen. I'm capable of things." My hand intertwined with his and I could feel him relax a little. I leaned closer to him and whispered. "Everything is going to be okay."
