The Curse and The Gift
Chapter 1
Granted
Something holds me tight as I struggle in it's grip. I hear a gun click, but nothing else happens. My eyes haze out and I see black spots cover my eyes as my hair whips around with my head to the hard cement ground.
When i'm relieved of the black-out, I can move freely, in a room with wooden floors and walls. One thing stands out and it's the girl in the reflection of a mirror. Horrified, and bruised slightly in her eye. The only thing good is her hair. Perfectly brushed straight brown hair, but it's not brown anymore. It's been colored black. Obviously done by the person who thunked her in the head with a gun. This person obviously is being kept hostage for the person's self protection. Her ice cold eyes are crazed and rabid. Her hazel eyes are plainly looking more green than usual. And it hits me, I am her.
A window is cracked next to the mirror. I'm surprised, does this person really want me to go? Or are they simply lost in thought of the open doorway of their hostage? Oh well. My first instinct is to jump out of it, and I do. The window only opens a crack, but I squeeze through slowly. Hitting the damp ground, I feel a snap in my back. I moan in agony, but lift myself again. Twinges of electricity run through my legs and I flail to the ground, getting out of whatever is shocking me.
Get out of here! I think, Somewhere safe. I hide under one of those tall pine trees. Something sings above me, a melodic tune. And then it makes a crow squawk. I look up, It's something of a large hummingbird with a green body and red eyes. A dagger beak and purple ended wings. It has no claws. I whistle it's first pleasant tune back, and sigh. I passed the time by naming the specie an Eabo.
I have to go back to Harnel, to my mother, my brother, my friend Rave, whoes a boy and sixteen like me, to my home. My country, Harnel. I'm not welcome in this country, Diswell. Nobody from Harnel is.
Judging by the way the stranger let me escape electric wise, there's probably nothing else to do but leave. I just don't know if there are anymore tricks in their sleeves. And I know I was only scavenging the person's house for food and supplies. I hear the Eabo chirp a sweet melody for me to whistle back, but it stares at me viscously. Suddenly, a horn noise comes out of its beak and swoops to my level, nearly an inch away.
It comes back. I can't feel if it's struck me with the massive beak, or its dagger like wings. But I hear a familiar voice coming from a collar around it's neck. "Stay down, Ixia." it played a recorded voice of the person who knocked me out, and planned the many tricks around the wooden room. The voice sounds nearest to a man. And he seems calm.
~*~
My face has a long gash from brow to lip. From the wing of the Eabo. Luckily, I've trembled a mile away. And I was conscious, so the man couldn't keep me. Pressure lies in my back pocket, and I search it. Finding a neatly folded note, I read it carefully:
Dear Ixia,
If you are reading this, you are only minutes away from me. No matter where, how, or when. I can be anything. I have done no harm to you, or have I done what you think I might have done based on being male. I only needed to keep you in that room. I'm basically not supposed to have visitors. I've colored your hair black to hide your identity from evil that saw you, you will figure tht out some time. My most sincere apologies are for hurting you. You are granted something truly great among my previous care. I hope you will find this power inside of you someday, but remember. I have my eye on you constantly, no matter what. And I will lure you back again, from Harnel.
Best of luck.
There is no name on the paper, but I keep it anyways for clues. I can be anything I think. What did he mean by that? And how will he be able to keep his eye on me? Why me? It's probably because I might not be able to handle this "power" he gave me. And he sure did do harm, and I won't forget it if I ever get my hands on him.
I have to find him. And make sure he stays away from my family.
