Chapter 31

Travis' mom came and got me at ten, just like she said she would. When I got into her car, Hannah and Kelly were in the back talking.
"There's this store I was thinking we should try. It's got a ton of dresses." Ella and George left with Clark earlier this morning. "Travis is shopping too."
I thought of him getting fitted for his suit and everything. He'd be disturbed after that experience.
His mom was right. The store was full of all different types of dresses. There were wedding dresses in the back, and the prom section was in front of it. When we walked in, a consultant came over to us.
"Are you looking for a dress?" I nodded and she continued to speak. "Well I'll help you with everything. You and me can look around, and your family can sit by the dressing room." She brought me towards the back where the dresses were. "Did you have anything particular in mind?"
"Not really." I looked through the selections and picked things out. After I finished my search, she helped me into each dress.
I stood in front of the mirror, and Travis' mom came over to me. The dress looked pretty. It was purple with one shoulder. The strap had small ruffles on it.
"I think Travis would like it." Hannah was playing with the ruffles. "Hannah, stop touching it." She put her hand down and looked at me.
"I like it, but I don't think it's the one you should wear." I changed into the next dress and came out to show everyone again.
This one was simple with a colorful print on it. I looked at everyone for their opinions.
"It's nice." That clearly meant try another one on. "I just don't think it's you." I agreed with that statement.
I only chose one more. It was blue and had a high waisted skirt. The bottom had a blue faded leopard print underneath a few layers of sheer blue. Dividing the sparkly top and bottom, was a black sash.
They all seemed to like this one. Kelly and Hannah both stared at me in shock.
"I love it! It's perfect!" I looked in the mirror. It was definitely the dress. We were able to purchase the dress today. I handed the girl my money, and she gave me a large back with my dress.
"Do you know what you're doing with your hair yet?"
"No, I didn't. It should be almost completely back to it's natural color by the end of the week, and there's two weeks until prom."
"If you want, I can take you to get it done next Friday."
"Yeah, that would be fun." For the rest of the ride, I talked with Hannah and Kelly. I promised them that I'd come see them on the night of the prom.
Everyday, for the past two weeks, Travis has been asking if he could see my dress. I kept telling him no, but that didn't stop him from asking again.
Instead of going home with Travis that Friday, his mom picked me up to take me to the hair salon. I haven't been to one in a long time. Ella and George favored Clark more, so I didn't get to do much stuff like this with them.
The person doing my hair had loosely curled it and made to braids that came together. I had just gotten used to the fact that my hair wasn't black anymore. Travis really liked it though.
They had also done my make up for me, since I'm not the greatest when it comes to formal make up. Everything looked good when it was finished.
I waited at home for a while after my appointment. When it was finally time to get ready, I put my dress and shoes on. The shoes hadn't made me that much taller. I looked myself over in the mirror to make sure everything was fine.
Mrs. Foreman was outside waiting for me. "Scarlette you look perfect!" She helped me into the car so nothing got ruined.
As she pulled into her driveway, I noticed Hannah was looking through the window. She ran to get everyone when she saw us. I got out of the car. Hannah ran back out and came over to me.
"You're so pretty!" She smiled and hugged me. "Oh, and here comes Travis!" I looked up from her to see Travis walking to me. His face was the same as Hannah's. Shocked, yet happy.
"You look beautiful." He smiled and hugged me.
"Thank you." I said while blushing. "I like your tie." It was the same color as my dress.
"Hannah, go get the camera, we need pictures of them." His mom was fixing Travis' hair.
"Mom stop, it's fine." He tried pushing her away, but she ignored that and continued. Hannah came back and handed the camera to her dad.
"Stand by the tree, it'll look pretty." Travis looped his arm around me and we took pictures. "Just one more."
"Mom, you've taken enough." Travis obviously wanted to leave. "Besides, we're going for a group shot at the park." He opened the door to his car for me. It was hard to get in in my dress. Travis drove us to the local park, where we went on our first date. "Some guys from the team asked me to come with them to take pictures."
We walked to the crowd of people. There were about twenty people there. I knew a few of them. Some I was in class with, and others I would see in the hall.
Everyone stood with their dates, and we took pictures. A lot of pictures were being taken. They did one of all the girls and one of all the guys. Afterwards, a friend of Travis' came to talk to him. His date and I talked.
"Oh my god, you're so pretty." She seemed really friendly. "Everyone in orchestra misses you! You've got to come back."
"Oh, I don't know. I haven't played in a while." I didn't know when I was going to play again. Or if I ever was. "You play Clarinet right?"
"Yepp. We're playing a viola concerto. I think you should audition for it. No one is better than you at that." She smiled at me. "Think about it. My name's Emily by the way."
After Travis was finished talking, we went back to the car. I was excited to get to the prom.
When we walked in, there was a line to for individual pictures.
"Really, more pictures?"
"It's only one." From the amount we took before we even got here, I could tell he didn't want more. They took the picture and we went to the room where the prom actually was. There were tables all over the place decorated with flowers.
We found our table and sat down. Two of Travis' friends were at our table also. I just realised that we got food while we were here. I couldn't waste it since Travis paid for it.
Up until the food actually came, I kept thinking of what i was going to do. I decided to eat it. Since it was a fancy place, it was a small portion, so eating most wouldn't be so bad.
The more I ate, the guiltier I felt about it. My plate was almost empty. I couldn't eat anymore.
When they cleared the table of plates, I came up with something. "I have to go to the bathroom, I'll be right back."
I walked to the bathroom and picked the stall all the way at the end. I was about to do something that I only do, unless it's absolutely nessacary. My reflection in the water looked scared and unsure. I breathed in, and did it.
I purged.
It felt so disgusting. But it got rid of everything I had just consumed. And that's all I wanted. When I felt like I had done enough, I flushed and walked out.
But as I opened the stall door, I saw Shelly standing there looking at me. I was afraid that she had heard everything that just happened.
All she said was, "Oh my god."
