Chapter 30

"Thanks for hugging me during the drill this morning." I said sarcastically.
"You're welcome. And I've figured out what we're going to do tonight." I looked at him and nodded. "How about mini golfing?"
"Mini Golf?"
"It'll be fun, I promise." I'll admit, it did sound fun. "I'll pick you up at six thirty since I have practice until five."
"Sounds good." We talked for the rest of lunch. Mostly about tonight and my plans for tomorrow. I was really excited, especially for tomorrow's shopping.
Lunch was over and I said goodbye to Travis.
My last classes of the day went by really fast. Faster than they normally would. Since Travis had lacrosse practice, I had to take the bus home. There was no way I would ever drive with Shelly again.
At home, I sat in my room on my bed. There wasn't much for me to do. So I decided to sleep. I didn't plan on sleeping long since Travis was coming later.
When I had woken up, I rolled over to see that it was almost six. I quickly got up to change into somethingelse.
I moved as fast as I could considering Travis would be here soon. I searched through my drawers and closet for something to wear. But nothing seemed good for tonight. The only good thing I could find, was a pair of shorts, and a long sleeve shirt that I haven't worn for a year or two.
I got done changing and ran down stairs just in time to get the door.
"Ready to go?" I nodded because I was out of breath from running around. "My mom wanted me to tell you that she's picking you up at ten tomorrow morning. And that Kelly and Hannah are coming if that's okay."
"Yeah, that's totally fine." I climbed into his car, but tripped on my next step. Travis had caught me from behind. I tried again. Travis still kept a hold of me just in case.
When we got to the mini-golf place, we went inside to pay.
"What color ball do you want?" The lady behind the counter put a basket of golf balls on the counter. Travis took a blue one. I decided on the light purple ball. "Theres a rack with clubs out front."
We went out to the rack which was right in front of the two course options. The rack was double sided so Travis went to the side with the larger ones.
"Hey, I found one for you." He laughed and came over to me. "It's the smallest one." I took it out of his hands. It fit perfectly. "Come one Shorty."
"Which course are we doing?" He walked me into the one with the big boulder in the centre of it.
"You can go first." I put my ball down, and swung. It bounced off the sides then stopped about two feet away from the hole. "At least it's kind of close."
"Oh please. Like you could do any better?" He hit the ball and it went straight in. "How did you do that?"
"I can show you if you want." I stared at him for a second and thought. "I'll take that look as a yes."
He laughed and we walked over to the next hole. I placed my ball on the black square. Travis came behind me and helped me.
"Was helping me an excuse just so you could do this?"
"Maybe." He leaned down and kissed my head. "Shorty." I smacked his stomache and walked to the side so he could go.
Like the first hole, it took me many tries, and hardly any for Travis. He continued to help me, but it didn't do much.
After we finished our game, we walked to his car. Travis made sure I didn't fall again as I got in. It wasn't that late yet, so we decided to drive somewhere.
"Where do you want to go?" I thought about places to go to. "I just thought of something."
"Okay?"
"You'll like it. We should get there in time before it starts." I was confused. I didn't know what he meant by 'before it starts.' He drove us to this little town right by the river.
On the bridge that goes over the river, there was a path on each side for people to walk on.
I linked my hand into Travis' and we walked over the bridge. He stopped us in the middle to bring us closer to the edge. I was afraid of falling over the railing.
"What are we doing here?"
"You'll see. What I brought us here for should start anytime now." A few seconds after Travis finished talking, fireworks started going off. I noticed that they were being shot from a small barge in the middle of the river. "Do you like it?" Travis had to yell over the sound.
"Yes." I moved closer to Travis and put my arm around him. In return, he did the same to me. "How did you know they were doing this?"
"Every Friday night starting in May they do it. They go until the end of August." I turned back to watch everything. The colors flashed in every direction.
The fireworks lasted for about fifteen minutes. When it was over, we went back to the car and drove home.
"Thanks for tonight. I had a lot of fun."
"You're welcome. I had fun too." Travis and I were standing outside my frontdoor. "Have fun shopping tomorrow." He kissed me goodbye and hugged me. "I love you."
I waved to him as he got in his car. He waved back and drove away. No one was home besides Clark and I.
I went to the basement to get my laundry out of the dryer, only to find Clark and his friends playing with the Xbox.
"Where's Ella and George?"
"They went out I think." He didn't turn to look at me. "Did you go out with Travis?"
"Yeah." It wasn't until then that I noticed Nathan was here. I walked over to the washer and dryer. Behind the couch was lacrosse and school bags. They all must have come straight from their practice. "How long is everyone staying?"
"I don't know. For as long as they want. If that bothers you so much, just leave." I took everything out of the dryer and put it into the basket with my name labeled on it. "I mean we don't want you down here anyways."
The four of them erupted in laughter. I picked up my stuff and walked upstairs.
I walked upstairs and went to bed. I kept thinking of tonight. What Travis said right before he left stuck in my head though.
