While Kateline is angry that she can't be alone, Darsey would do anything for a friend. She had been locked in prison for her parent's actions at age four, her rescuer/torturer was the only person she since then.

Chapter 1

Kateline: How Awful

I dig my toes into the grass and look up at the sky. How I long for it! I pick up my deep purple, silk skirts off the ground and sigh. I am cooped up in the palace more
than I can stand. And that horrible father of mine, always demanding what I don't have, always blaming me when I don't give it to him.
" Miss Kateline, you father wants you," a garden servant appeared out of nowhere. " He is is the pavilion, my lady."
" Go away," I growl, angry that my time alone has already ended. I put my shoes back on and run to the pavilion. I see my father looking at me coming and continue running towards him. As I arrive he shakes his head at me.
" Kateline, please, have some respect for the king and act more like your sister. Tommorrow is your fourteenth birthday, as you well know. As is the custom, you shall have a prince ask your hand in marriage. Plans have already been made with the King and Queen of France. The prince of France will be informed if this shortly, if he hasen't already been-"
I huffed. " You want to marry me off, my king? To the prince of France for that matter?"
" Watch how you talk, Kateline. Society has no place for impulsive ladies like you," he scolded sharply then muttered something about how he wished I'd act more like Pearl.
" Father, I am sick of being told to act like Pearl!" I complained.
" That is how you must act, young lady. Pearl is now off to Italy with her husband, and we need this prince, the Queen's youngest son, to take over the throne here."
I wrinkled my nose and wished I was in the sky. Suddenly a streak of panic passed trough me. The sky. If I had to be married, will my new husband have to know my secret? Even worse, would I ever feel a cloud again? Darkness blurred my vision as every cell of my body burned with panic. I fell.
