Love & Heartbreak Part 7

Few weeks later

Melanie is at the office standing in the hallway.

By the way -- there has always been friction between Melanie and Stephanie ever since the 1st day they met in France.

Stephanie - (walking up to her) hey Melanie.

Melanie - (studying the paperwork in her hands) hi

Stephanie - What's that?

Melanie - It's just paperwork that I had to refill out for my business degree to Salem University. (looking up at Stephanie from the papers) What's wrong Stephanie you look sick.

You had taken an extension off work to plan the wedding but since it was done and over you decided to start back to school and work.

Stephanie - You're coming back?

Melanie - (smart alecky) should I call somebody? C'mon Stephanie a peso for your thoughts.

Stephanie - You want to know what I am thinking? I think you coming back here to work again is an unbelievably bad idea.

Melanie - You seem to have me mixed up with somebody that cares about what you think.

Stephanie - You were thinking about quitting the company and becoming a stay at home wife.

Melanie - So how does that pertain to your horrible reaction to my decision to unquit.

Stephanie - Okay I shouldn't have said anything it's your life and your choice.

Melanie - Well...that's very generous for you to acknowledge that. It's is my life and it is my choice. I probably couldn't have said it any better myself. It's just a bummer that you didn't get that right off the bat before you chimed in and said that my life and my choices are your decisions.

Stephanie - You're right I had a bad reaction to you saying you were coming back.

Melanie - At least you somewhat hid it well.

Stephanie - I don't admire quitters.

Melanie - Hmmm...fair enough so while we are the subject of what we do and don't admire. I don't admire people who are mean. People who try and discourage others from doing things that are positive with their life. So.....hi (talking to one of the interim walking down the hall) this is my paperwork to come back as a consultant can you please see that it gets to the right person?

Interim - Sure

Melanie - Thank you so much. (talking to Stephanie again) Just to make sure we are clear I'll put it in the simplist terms for you. What I do...where I work is non of your buisness.

She backs away from Stephanie and walks off.

Stephanie - (talking to herself) the hell it isn't.

Later on that night

Melanie is at the house by herself when there is a knock at the door. She answers it and it's Stephanie.

Melanie - Oh great! Did you come by to scold me some more?

Stephanie - No, Melanie I....

Melanie - (interupting her) I mean you should have seen the look on your face at the office.

Stephanie - Okay would you let me.....

Melanie - you had a look like I just shot someone or something.

Stephanie - Would you just shut up for a second and let me explain myself.

Melanie sighed and looked at her.

Stephanie - When I told you at the office that I didn't think it was a good idea for you to come back to work and I questioned your dedication I obviously wasn't being very honest.

Melanie - (smart alecky) I am shocked.

Stephanie - I think it's a bad idea for other reasons.

Melanie - Hmmmm...what if I don't want to hear them.

Stephanie - Well, you have to because it's going to affect a lot of people including John.

Melanie - So you are John's protector now?

Stephanie - Yes, I am also looking out for Randy and you.

Melanie - Okay this conversation is over (closing the door in Stephanie's face) thank you.

Stephanie throws her hand up to stop the door from shutting.

Stephanie - (barging through the door) ahhh...no it's not. (walking into the house)

Shane McMahon and John Cena

All the wrestlers where at the the gym working out.

Shane was running on one of the treadmills. John joined him by jumping on the empty one beside him.

John - Hey Shane

Shane - Hey John

John - I just....uh...I w-want to say...um...

Shane - What?

John - Well, I hope that you are not concerned about Melanie and me anymore.

Shane - Uh...should I be?

John - No, no that's the point. I...uh...know she is married to Randy now and I respect that and besides that I am in a relationship myself now so.

Shane - Well, that's good.

John - Yea, I guess you haven't heard yet but I am dating your sister Stephanie and I think she is great. I feel real lucky.

Shane - Uh...okay (finishing his run) well I guess I will see ya (wiping his face with a towel and walking away.

Melanie and Stephanie

Melanie - (closing the door now) are you serious right now by just pushing past me?

Stephanie - I am trying to get through to you. Look I know it's not premeditated or deliberate on your part.

Melanie - What?

Stephanie - You can't see you are making a mistake. You are too self consumed you can't see anything all you can see is yourself Melanie.

Melanie - What do you want me to think about Stephanie? You??!!???

Stephanie - How about John?

Melanie - John? So if I go back to the office his whole world is going to fall apart? I don't know what you are talking about!??

Stephanie - Don't play stuipd Melanie I can see right through it.

Melanie - Well, you are very insightful.

Stephanie - Look if you go back to the office you are going to force John to interact with you everyday. Now he is pretty much over you but still I don't think it's anything he needs.

Melanie - What he needs....hmph...so I am to deny myself the things I want...the career I want for what -- so that John has time to get over me? But what about the things I need Stephanie?

Stephanie - You have Randy

Melanie - Ha...that's a non sack winner.

Stephanie - How is that a non sack winner? Randy is the man you love right? So why don't you be a good rich Mrs. Orton make some babies, shop, go to lunch, and re-decorate your house.

Melanie - Oh...Stephanie...ugh...I am not going to even pretend to think that you are a nice person because I straight up don't -- you are mean and manipulative. I am not sure why but I think you like it.

Stephanie - (taking a deep breath and shaking her head) I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt your feelings Melanie. I am just trying to advise you. I care about John and all I am trying to do is to protect him from feeling conflicted.

Melanie - hmmmm...I see you two are back together again aren't you?

Stephanie - Yea, we are

Melanie - So finally we get to the bottom of all this...ha ha...the reason you are being manpulative and crazy is because you are afraid of losing him. You'll do anything you can to keep me away from him. Am I right?

Stephanie shakes her head in frusration.

Melanie - Oooph....I thought I was insecure.

Stephanie - I am not insecure.

Melanie - (laughing) are..are you serious? (shaking her head) Okay then why would you care if I am around John or not?

Stephanie - I know how you operate Melanie.

Melaine - How I operate? You deliberately ruined things between me and John and now you are dating the guy. I mean you are actually rewarded for your awful behavior.

Stephanie - (grabbing her purse off the kitchen table) I don't have to listen to this. (heading towards the door)

Melanie - No you don't BUT...mmm...you can be honest about something.

Stephanie stops at the door still not facing Melanie.

Melanie - (walking towards her) you read my letter to John the one that I wrote him on my wedding day didn't you?

Stephanie - (whirling around and facing her) yes, I read the letter and I am not sorry I didn't show it to John. I am not sorry I didn't tell him about and I'm defintely not sorry I told you he didn't want to read. I guess I am not sorry about anything.

Melanie - So you lied to me and to John.

Stephanie - Yes, what about your little transgressions? Writing a letter like that to John when you are about to marry another man? You are the one who was wrong from the begining.

What Melanie and Stephanie didn't know was Randy was just getting home from the gym and he had just reached the door when he started to overhear the conversation taking place between the two of them.

Stephanie - How could you Melanie? How could you write a letter to John on your wedding day and tell him you would leave Randy for him?

Hearing this for the first time and in shock Randy leans up against the door and stares out into the street.
