Chapter 1

There's still hope in the world.... there has to be....

Vanessa walked alone through the cemetary. It was a little after mid-night, and the cool fall breeze was giving her chills. That morning she had been perfectly fine with the idea of meeting Andrew in the middle of the night at the graveyard, but looking back on that, she was starting to think it wasn't such a grand idea.
She sat down on a freezing concrete bench and folded her arms across her chest. She looked up at the sky and wondered if maybe the new boy had stood her up. Nessa was too caring, and that made everyone walk on her. So being stood up after really hoping to see the boy was the most probable thing. She sighed and stood.
"I feel so stupid!" she hissed at herself. "I mean really? Did you honestly expect a guy like him to show up at a cemetary at 12 o'clock just see you?!" she cursed. She sighed to herself.
"No, but I hoped," she answered. Tomorrow everyone at school would laugh at her for being so silly. She wouldn't be able to sit with Bella and Valery at lunch. Sarah would try to shove her in her locker or the boys bathroom again. Derrik, her older brother, would dis-own her and ignore her pleas for back up. She was on the opposite side of happy. The polar opposite. She was alone and being in this situation was the last step needed for her to realize that.
Behind her the moon shone brilliantly full and white. If it weren't for her sadness, Nessa would have gawked at it for hours. Soon, the tombstones were replaced by bushes and trees. The forest that her small hometown was build inside of was just that, small. Something rustled in the underbrush to her left. Nessa jumped and stared at the source of the noise, a rabbit. She sighed in relif because it wasn't anything more dangerous.
She continued to walk when she heard a twig snap about two feet away. She turned around and expacted to see another small rabbit. What she didn't expect was the glowing yellow eyes that were rising higher and higher until whatever they belonged to had to be towering over her. A scream got caught in her throat. Below the eyes, Nessa missed what would have been either an evil grin or a confused sneer.
