Chapter 1

Never

I breathed in the air. The air was brisk and sweet; coming alive within the fog that had formed in the night. I inhaled, lets it seep into my lungs, like sponges absorbing water. It freshened me; made me return to youth with every step I took. I was a child again, or so it felt. The air coursed through my veins, feeding my brain. My senses awakened.

My sight became sharper. I could now notice all of the details of the forest, even though the thick ghastly fog.

I could see the moss, and every crevasse it had, like a mini mountain covered in trees. Like here.

My ears picked up every sound possible. I heard things I was sure I wasn't suppose to hear. Like the crickets...no not their normal sound, not their beautiful jazz of the night...no I heard the friction between their legs, not just the music of it. I could hear the owls shift on their branches, the mice scurrying!

My touch felt more than temperature and texture or shape. I could feel the past and the history of it. The fog was like ribbons of time carrying every story possible. The cold bearing tales of darkness. The trees chanting novels of nature. The dirt screaming with songs of the quests of animals!

Smells were suffocating me! They consumed me as I inhaled them slowly as I walked avoiding rotting logs and stumps. Some wonderful, like drugs overwhelming my brain with greatness. Some horrid, like dead opossum, making me want to faint. But it all leveled out in the end, being the perfect balance.

Taste and smell acted as a team, but taste allowed me to taste the freshness of it all. The amount of water in the air on my tongue hydrated me in a way.

And then I ran through the trees. I ran hard and swift, with grace flowing throughout me. My long brown straight hair flew behind me, like waves of silk.

And sweat trickled down the side of my head, yet the coolness of the forest kept me running as hard as a boar. The smell kept me motivated. The sight kept me dazed in beauty. The taste kept my throat moist. The feel kept my imagination running wild. The sound kept my breathing in a smooth rhythm.

I ran harder and even swifter, with even more grace though! I imagined myself running as smooth as a deer, as beautiful as a doe, as fragile as a fawn, yet as powerful as a buck!

My shoulders hunched forward, yet my legs stayed in motion. My arms grew, hooves replacing my hand. My back lunged forward, growing to fit my new anatomy. My face reformed, and my legs became more powerful.

I wasn't even trying to keep it up now, it all came to me naturally. My legs galloped into a new form, all the better.

And then I ran some more, into the night, into the never ending forest, happier than I have ever been. No worries. No need to fit in. No abuse. Never would I be seen again in the human world. Never.
