Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Reunion
Alex’s POV
“Alex, don’t worry. She’ll be here soon.” my mother, Evelyn O’ Connell, said to me, putting her clothes away. I was pacing back and forth in her room. I was waiting for my best friend, Violet Henderson, to arrive. She would be moving in with us, here, in Cairo, Egypt.
Violet’s parents had gone missing one day, and was never seen again. Violet didn’t have any other relatives to live with, so, she decided to come live with me and my family.
“Yeah, Alex.” my uncle, Jon, said, fiddling with the golden scepter my god-aunt Ancksunamun had given him a few years ago. He never let anyone touch it, let alone, near it. “Chill out. She’ll be here soon.”
I haven’t seen Violet in 2 years, and I really missed her. She was like a sister to me. She was always nice to me, and taught me things I didn’t even know she could do.
Ancksunamun adopted her when she was only 8 years old after her real parents died in a car crash. Ancksunamun had raised her since then. During Violet’s years here before being forced to move from Egypt by command of King Seti I, Ancksunamun gave her powers, very special powers. She gave Violet the ability to do many things. So many, I can’t even list them. King Set I had gotten sick and tired of Violet, so he sent her away to a family all the way in Canada. And Violet had lived with them since. Ancksunamun missed Violet so much, she cried every night until Imhotep, her new husband, calmed her down.
Violet and I met in London when I was 8 years old and she was 11. My family and I were on vacation in one of the hotels in London. I forget which one. And Violet’s family happened to be tourists of London itself. Violet didn’t want to travel with a group from place to place, so she decided to hang out with me and my family for awhile. She didn’t keep track of the time, and she ended up being separated from her parents for a good long time. I told Violet she could stay with us until she found her parents. And she accepted. The next day of her stay with us, she found her parents in another tour group near our home. We had exchanged phone numbers and email addresses and such, just so there was a way to contact each other. I ain’t telling you anymore. Not to be mean or anything, but I just want to get on with the story.
I kept pacing back and forth in my parents’ room, waiting for Violet. Mom got done with her clothes, and she and Uncle Jon went downstairs.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. “I’LL GET IT!” I shouted, running downstairs to the front door. I zoomed past Imhotep and Ardeth Bei, a friend of the family’s. They were playing poker (not strip poker). They didn’t look up as I past them.
I reached the front door, and opened it. Guess who it was.
“Violet!” I exclaimed, hugging my best friend tightly.
“Alex! It’s so good to see you.” she cried, hugging me back.
We pulled away, smiling and laughing. I helped her get her things to her old room she had slept in when Ancksunamun first took her in.
While we talked, Violet started unpacking and putting things where they belonged, as if she knew exactly what she was doing. We talked about what has been going on with each other.
After putting her clothes in the drawers in the dresser and in the closet, she started unpacking her other things and setting them on the dresser, and the side table next to her bed, which looked like a very comfy Egyptian bed.
After unpacking everything she owned, I took her downstairs to the living room, which was really King Seti I’s throne room. King Seti I himself was sitting on his throne with his high priest, Imhotep, Ancksunamun’s husband.
When King Seti I saw Violet, he rolled his eyes. I guess he still thought Violet was annoying.
Imhotep, on the other hand, smiled as Violet skipped into the throne room behind me. Ancksunamun was sitting on a couch next to my mom, and they both smiled at the sight of my best friend. My dad, Ardeth Bei, and Uncle Jonathan looked up from a card game and smiled as well.
Violet smiled back at everybody, slowing her skipping to a walk.
“See, Alex? I told you she would be here soon.” Uncle Jon said to me. I smiled a little and lead Violet to Ancksunamun and my mom.
“Oh, Violet, it’s so good to see you again.” Ancksunamun said, hugging her. My mom hugged Violet as well, then everybody else (except King Seti) welcomed Violet back to Cairo and hugged her as well. I think Violet ignored King Seti completely. After all, he ignores her all the time.
“It’s so good to see you guys, I missed you all.” Violet said, smiling. I turned to her. “Let’s go to my room, I’ve got to show you something.” I told her. She nodded, and I lead her out of the throne room and back upstairs.
Upstairs, I lead her to my room, which was much smaller than Violet’s room. But I didn’t complain.
