i felt him bite into my neck and at first i struggled against his grasp but knew it was in vain.i looked into his face.those red eyes held a glimmer of guilt.my eyes slid from him to the figure standing in the corner.there silver hair fell like a waterfall down there shoulders.it seemed unearthly the way she looked.she grinned at me and her lilac eyes brightened.her face seemed familiar like it was tugging at my memories but i let it go as darkness overcame me.

Chapter 1

Patience

i hustled through the crowd.the smell of the city overwhelming my overly high senses.my eyes flicked from one person to the next suspicious and calculating.i cut across the road swiftly and silently.to silent to be human.i looked at my reflection in the shop window.my green contacts were fading and you could see the crimson sheen behind them.i rolled my eyes."stupid contacts"i mumbled and ran my fingers through my black hair.
i looked across the street and found the Starbucks i was looking for.the door opened with a ding and i strode over to a booth where a young man sat in long black coat,a coffee in front of him.i slid into the seat across from him and watched slowly as he pulled a small red packet from his pocket dumping the thick red contents into his coffee then taking a sip.i tapped my nails against the counter and he looked amused.his eyes were blue but you could see they were fading like mine.they had turned a lilac color.he had the face of a archangel.beautiful but with danger unknown looking there.i looked at him and my voice was barely audible to human ears"are we done here.""ahhh Adriana how you amuse me"he grinned.his voice was silky but american except for a slight accent i could never place.whenever i asked about it he would darken and say'traveling changes your voice Adriana especially for the fact that you 350 years old."every time i knew he was lying but i never pushed.
he sipped the rest of his coffee and stood.i followed him out the door with another ding.and to the Mercedes parked at the curb.a guy glanced at me the wrong way and Aston stopped me with a hand."patience with humans"he said.i continued to walk seething.i slid into the passenger seat and into the leather relaxing into it.the car pulled out and onto the highway.i again marveled at how my senses were on hyper drive.it was like someone had pumped me full of steroids but instead of my muscles growing my senses did.
"you should really be more careful with your eyes"Aston whispered breaking the silence."look whose talking"i said back.i glanced in the rear view mirror,my eyes were bright and flashy crimson.i glared at my reflection.my good looks only because i was a vampire.
when we drove down our long driveway i jumped out the car and ran upstairs in my room i lay on my black silk comforter with silver embroidery.i stood up and pulled on a more comfartable pair of silver boots and wove my hair into a long braid down my back.i ran down stairs and opened the fridge pouring the red contents of a milk carton into a glass and downing it in one sip.automatically my eyes turned molten silver.i rushed out the door into the forest surrounding our house.i walked slowly through the woods watching the trees sway in the breeze..i sat on a rock when i heard a rustle near me.i heard paws and inhaled the air....wolf.i stood up quickly as a white wolf padded onto the trail.
