Chapter 1
Fight For Your Life (Only Chapter)
The wolf skirted around it's attacker, dusk-brown pelt matted with blood. His lifted it's lips and let out a fierce snarl.
The hunter smirked. It raised it's thunder-stick and aimed it at the wolf.
The wold dodged thinking only of her pups back in the den, and how she must keep them safe. Even if it meant her life.
The lightning never hit her, as it had her mate. She felt it whiz past her cheek, lightly brushing her fur. She growled deep in her chest, trying to scare the hunter away.
He loaded more of the odd pellets into his thunder-stick. His pale, fleshy face broke out in a grin as he aimed again, making weird sounds in the back of his throat. The wolf ducked out of the way just in time.
He said something in human-speak, something that she could not comprehend. It was spat out of his mouth, getting his foul saliva on her muzzle. She tried to run, to lead him away from her den. He followed, loping along at an impossibly slow pace. The wolf led him to the cliff-drop.
When she got to the edge, she turned to face him. Somewhere far away, she could smell the blood of her dead mate. The need for revenge rose like bile in the back of her throat as she stared into the Hunter's beady black eyes. He killed her mate.
Stones crackled beneath her feet as she placed her back paw on the edge of the cliff. She whipped her head around to see the seventy-foot drop. It was either die, or attack.
She lunged at the Hunter. He fired his thunder-stick, grazing her shoulder. She yelped, but it did not stop her from sinking her jaws deep into the Hunter's arm. He squealed and tried desperately to throw her off.
She could smell her pups near by. They must have followed her.
She wanted to let a howl, to tell them to flee, but it would alert the Hunter of their presence. The wolf knew that he would kill them, just like any puma or bear. But this one was stupider than both.
She pinned him to the ground, teeth hovering over his throat. He struggled under her, making whimpering sounds like a cub. The wolf let her jaws fall open in a mocking grin.
The Hunter kicked her, scoring the wound on her shoulder. She was knocked off of him, and caught a glimpse of a pup in the sparse brush. She let out a quick whine, telling it franticaly to go back. But it toddled forward, wanting to help it's mother.
The Wolf shut her eyes briefly. The Hunter hadn't noticed the tiny pup, but he was coming for the adult again, walking slowly in a horrible attempt to sneak up on her when she was distracted. She turned and lunged again, going straight for the Hunter's throat.
He fired the thunder-stick.
She felt the pain lash through her belly. She fell to the ground, bleeding horribly. The Hunter made that odd sound again, looking amused with himself. He lumbered over to her, reaching down with filthy paws to touch her.
Until he saw the pup.
He grinned, again aiming his thunder-stick. The Wolf let out a rasp of rage, and jolted to her feet. She leaped onto the Hunter's back, ignoring the pain. He was caught by surprise as she fastened her jaws around his neck in a bone-breaking grip. He yowled with agony and began to back up.
The Wolf felt the Hunter's feet slip on the edge of the cliff.
There was a whoosh of air, then more pain, and then utter blackness.
