Chapter 1

Looks Like They Know...

It was later than I expected when I climbed through the portrait hole and into the common room, yet Hermione was still waiting for me when I walked into the girls' dormitory.

"Belle! What happened?" She said when she saw me.

"Oh, you're awake." I mumbled as I sat on my bed.

"Who left the note?" She pressed.

"It was Blaise Zabini." I said, blushing.

"Well what did he want?" She asked. Jeeze, this girl is persistent.

"He, um... He asked me out." I said quietly. My face burned even more.

"He.... Blaise Zabini. He asked you out? What did you say?"

"I said yes." I said. Hermione let out a gasp.

"Oh, Belle! That's great!" She beamed. "Oh, Ron and Harry won't like this very much." She said after a while.

"Yeah, I figured that much. That's why no one's gonna tell them, right?" I asked, raising my eyebrows at Hermione.

"I promise, I won't tell." She beamed. "Get some sleep, Belle." She said before turning off the lights.

"Goodmorning." Someone whispered in my ear on my way to Transfiguration. I turned and saw Blaise smiling at me.

"Morning." I said happily. He took my hand in his, and we walked together down the halls.

"Know what? We should skip." Blaise said, stopping me before I could turn the corner to reach Transfiguration.

"Skip? On the second day of class?" I raised my eyebrows at him.

"Yeah. McGonagall won't care." He said, pulling me towards on of the secret passages. "Let's go."

I took one last look at my fellow Gryffindors on their way to class, and let Blaise take me into the passage.

"Where to?" He asked after the bell rang.

"How about the lake?" I suggested.

"Whatever you want." He said, taking my hand again and guiding me down the passage. "I know a shortcut to get outside."

I followed Blaise through the long passage and after a few minutes we stepped out into the bright morning sun. Still holding hands, we walked over to the lake and sat underneath my favorite tree.

"This is nice." He said after a while. He stretched his legs out and put his arm around my shoulders. "It sure beats dealing with McGonagall for an hour."

I smiled, watching the lake shine in the sun. "What did your friends say... about us?" He asked quietly.

"Well Hermione's happy... But I haven't told Ron or Harry yet."

"Oh? Ashamed of me?" He asked with a smirk.

"No, no of course not! They'd just... try to kill you is all." I mumbled.

Blaise laughed, and I had to join.

"Don't worry, I haven't told my friends," he spat the word, "either. They think you're a blood traiter."

"Well I kind of am." I muttered.

Blaise turned so he could look me in the eyes. "I don't care what you are. PureBlood, Mudblood, it doesn't matter to me." He said sincerely. Without giving him a chance to continue, I closed the short distance between us and planted a kiss on his lips. He shifted his weight so that I was leaning against the tree, his arms on either side of me. It would have been a great kiss, until we were interrupted.

I felt Blaise's weight lift and heard a yell and a splash. I looked at the lake to see Blaise's head pop up from under water. I snapped my head back to see who the culprit was. Harry and Ron were towering over me, fuming. They glared at Blaise as he climbed out of the lake, dripping wet.

Harry raised his wand and pointed it at Blaise's chest. "You stay away from her." He growled.

Blaise glared right back at the two, then muttered, "We'll talk later, Belle." before he trudged up to the castle.

Harry and Ron rounded on me after Blaise dissapeared through the doors.

"What the helI was that?" Ron asked.

"What?" I shot back defensively.

"You were snogging Zabini!" Harry spat.

"What does that matter?" I asked, getting pisséd.

Ron's ears turned pink with anger. "What does it matter?! He's bad news! He's always around Malfoy and the rest of those Slytherin creeps!"

"It's none of you're business who-"

"Yes it is, Arabella!" Harry shouted. I flinched. My friends never called me my actual name. "You're not going to see him anymore, alright?"

"Shove off, Harry! It's my decision who I date, not yours." I yelled, and with that I stormed off. I walked right past Hermione, who was waiting in the common room and went up to the dormitory. I sat in bed the rest of the day, glaring out the window. Despite Hermione's pestering, I skipped dinner.

I eventually relaxed enough to fall asleep, but after a while I stirred to find myself surrounded by cold darkness. I reached around for my blanket only to realize it wasn't there. I groped my bed searching for it, until I realized that my bed was gone, too.
