Chapter 1
God, No, Please, Don't Let This Happen Now...
"We found Sean's body along the bank of the Hudson River. There was no blood in his veins and his chest was covered in stab wounds by a blunt silver object. I'm sorry, Holly, but we believe Sean was murdered."
I heard the words over and over again in my head. They flowed in and out like a raging river, they repeated but each time was more definite, emphasized, clear.
I thought of Sean. Every time I heard Sean's name, I shook violently. I asphyxiated my tongue on every letter. I broke out in a sweat that shouldn't be there. I trembled as memories coursed through my thoughts.
Every second I thought of Sean's body. I thought of the ring I was supposed to place on his fingers. The ring already on his, and on mine. Sometimes I would hold it for such a long time, then when it was hot I would press it against my lips in hopes to feel Sean's lips instead of a warm metal. I prayed for him every day, knowing his soul wouldn't return.
Sean had proposed to me yesterday. Sunday, January 16, 1993 at 8:27 PM was the time. I remembered it so vividly. If only I could live in those memories forever...
Flashback
"You shouldn't drink," I clutched the wine bottle as Sean spoke to me.
His natural bleach blonde hair from his mother was gelled handsomely in layers across his head. Sean had his high cheekbones, square jaw, and warm gold eyes from his father. His mother's features were faint, but you could see them well. A crooked nose, slim body (would be if it weren't for the fairly sized muscles) and the same disability on their toes. The second toe was longer then the first one, which was the defect I loved about him.
"I know. I don't care very much. I'm a seventeen year old sober girl who is going to drink her parent's vodka lemonade" I sipped from the wine bottle, mistakenly filled with guess what? Vodka Lemonade.
"O.K." he said sweetly. He scooted toward me on the worn, candy sofa.
We were relaxing in his basement. At first, I couldn't feel the need to add more comfort to the beautiful place.
Imagine stepping down a creaky spiral staircase, and the first thing you see is a shiny cherry wood flooring. A long window seat stretched across the entire length of the front side (It was underground, so there wasn't a window, but Sean's mom, Rachel, sewed Maroon curtains to make it look like so). A small television, several bookcases, a white bathroom door, a peppermint-colored sofa, and a cozy, wool rug filled the glow of the area. The walls were drowning in many famous paintings or oldies posters or records. It was very calming, speaking of the classical music soothing the environment coming from a tiny stereo.
"Can I have some then?" He asked pleadingly. "Fine," I agreed nervously. Sean didn't drink much, but I guess he was fine.
Big mistake. Not the vodka, if that's what you're thinking.
We took turns sipping silently, cuddling. "Hold on," he smiled as he quickly got up. He stalked over to the library of his, searched for a book, and when he found it he brought it over. It looked like he hid something in it.
"Read me this, Holly?" I flipped over to the cover. The Beauty & The Beast. "Why do you want me to read you a children's story?" I pondered at this. "Just skip to the happy ending. Page 16." he ordered. I turned the pages one by one, building suspense. I could see him shaking with anxiousness. When I was at page fifteen, I swallowed. Then turned the page.
I fell back in shock. The wine bottle that was in my grip fell, and spilled all over the floor. Sean had a devious smile on his angel face.
It had been the ring.
Sean moved toward the spilled Vodka Lemonade, looking as innocent as ever. I examined the ring closely.
It was a thick, silver object. The perfect round cut diamond stay sealed in the grasp of thin silver arms. I slipped it on my ring finger. It was a tiny bit loose. I liked it that way, so I could try to hold on to it instead of it holding on to me.
"And the Princess was saved by the Prince and was taken to his kingdom where they lived happily ever after," His voice made me jump. It seemed like a long hour before anything happened. I lurched forward out of the chair I was sitting in and wrapped my arms around his neck. "I love you, Sean Travis Woods" I whispered. Then, his lips formed to mine like a missing puzzle piece.
Flashback Over
It was too bad the wedding was going to be today. We planned it out on that very night.
Well, happily ever after my a.ss.
