Cold Ice

I'm at ice skating with my friends, Sarah Angel, Phoebe Carter, Allison Jonathan, Sarah's boyfriend, Ian Song, and a few of my guy friends. One of them is the boy I'm conditionally in love with.

I'm in Grade Eight, at the very start of the year. No one said High School would be so hard. There's so much pressure to be someone you're not. I'm lucky. I'm the popular girl, but do I like it at all? No way. I wish I could be weird and wacky like I am, but it would put my reputation down so much, because I'm popular right now.

To get to the point, the boy that I love is Robert Hamlin. He's a show-off and a bully, and everyone hates him but Leah Path, Maddy Source and myself. I have no idea why I love him, but I just do.

'Hey! Can't wait to get on the ice! You show us all up won't you, with you're daily lessons and everything...' yelled Sarah.

'I know hey! It'll be awesome being great at something that you're boyfriend will suck at, since he seams to win at everything!'

'Yeah... Ian! Stop being so awesome!'

'I try, I really do, but you know...' Ian answers back, shrugging.

'Well, lets pay, and skate!' I answered.

I noticed that Robert was at the end of the line. He always avoids me, even though I always try and talk to him. At least he said yes to coming tonight.

'Hey, Robert was staring at you!' Phoebe tells me.

'Not so loud! He might hear you...'

'Ha ha! You're blushing! Ha ha ha!'

'It's just the cold...'

'Sure sure...'

We payed and got our skates on.

'I like your skates Lilly.' I looked up. It was Robert, COMPLEMENTING me. He never complements ANYONE. I shocked, I couldn't talk properly.

'Thanks. I bought them here.'

They were white with gold laces and gold blades. They $75 and I love them.
'How much?'

'$75.'

'Depends if I like this or not I might buy some. Not the smae as yours though! That would be weird!'

I laughed. 'Yeah, just a tad Robert...'

Soon we were out on the ice. I was helping my friends to get off the side, holding hands and skating. Trying to not let them pull me over, I decided I would go for a quick speed skate around the edge. I met Robert on my way, and he was really good!

'Hey! When did you get so good!?' I asked him.

'I do heaps of roller blading. I do speed skating competitions actually. So this is pretty easy for me. I'm not nearly as good as you though which I hate by the way...'

'Ha ha! Well, I do figure skating and speed skating classes every day so yeah...'

'I might start.'

'Really!? That'd be so cool! Let's go in the middle hey?'

'Sure.'

'Hey, aren't you cold with only a singlet and a mini skirt and leggings on?'

'No way. After you skate round for hours it gets cold. And I love the cold. I've gotton used to this, I've been doing it since I was five...'

We were skating round, talking an laughing. Suddenly 'Fall For You' by 'Secondhand Serenade' came on. It was a slow love song, and as we were skating side by side it ruined the fun. It was too weird and I hated it.

'How about we go into the coffee shop?' I sugested.

In the coffee shop you can't hear the music that's going on outside, so I thought that'd be the best way to go.

'Sure. How awkward was that huh?'

'Very!' I laughed.

'He really knows how to break a silence,' I thought to myself. 'Maybe because he's so honest is why Iove him so much.'
